My thoughts exactly!

I'm practically getting an ulcer reading the OP's responses. I can only imagine how long it will take this dude to find gas at the right price... Which he will be doing quite often.

Indonesians, Indians, etc always complain about price I think it's cultural. They haven't figured out that's the used car market is negotiable.

Garage List
I think you guys need to do a little more shopping. I was able to get my 2011 E90 for $3k under KBB value. Granted it was a basic model (6MT / Only premium and tech pkg) but still. There are deals out there you just need to look.

Now if you are talking about a pristine E46 M3 that is a whole different ball of wax.

This thread is useless.

If you REALLY wanted to buy an M, you would've already. OBVIOUSLY price matters, this is why you SEARCH for the deals out there.

My 08' with all the options including DCT, KBB says it's worth $39,966 "Good condition". Do I think I could sell my car for at least 40k (including parts).. Absolutely.

Again, do you RESEARCH. If you don't like the price, then give someone else your money. Simple

Case dismissed.

I think you're missing the point here. the fact that we pay cash means we know we have a lot more bargaining power.

He missed the boat on the whole convo. Indonesians put down the money and burn rubber.

This thread has been mildly amusing, and I tend to agree with the OP that enthusiasts always have unrealistic expectations of their car's worth (similar phenomenon can be seen on VWvortex and BMWCCA forums). However, if you haven't found the right car after 2 years, it must be a case of enjoying the chase more than the kill.

That said, it constantly amuses me when I see people talking about "why would I pay cash when I can pay 2% interest and invest for 15%, particularly coming from someone that is presuming to give all of us a micro lession. They are completely different investment scenarios -- one based on the risk free rate, one based on a risk premium, and if you are making 15% consistently, you are accepting a large risk premium (beta). Your choice of course (everyone's risk tolerance is different), but excess returns don't come by magic, and they are not comparable to paying a car loan or not. If you can consistently generate alpha (most professional money managers do not), then you should be working for a hedge fund, not whatever your day job is.

How does that give you more bargaining power? If I'm selling a car, I could care less if the money comes directly from you or from your bank.

Thread title is "m3 pricing what gives???"

Answer is nothing gives. The entire thread is a ponderously long winded rant about m3post sellers asking too much. Well whoop dee do. If that's actually the case they won't sell.

The poster that said there is nothing worth discussing was spot on. OP try to justify it all you want but your posts make it clear you just want to hear yourself argue and are for some inexplicable reason fixated on the asking prices of private sellers on one forum

You say you have money and time and no urgency and there are tons of cars and prices are great and you've just been looking for 2 years because it's vital to you to get the *exact* deal you must have.

Well that's great! So if all of that is true there is no problem and no need for discussion or a thread. If you were to look at your own posts honestly and objectively you'd see you have no real point beyond aggravation over a small set of for sale listings on one forum. Complain to the sellers. The rest of it was all noise.

The best post was that post about Indo... Indo is no joke! Those guys pay HUGE money for these cars too while we in the US bitch that 38k is too much and the car shouldn't be more than 37.5

This... in literally decades of arguing on forums it never ceases to amaze me how some people feel the need to bludgeon people in to doing things the way they do when it comes to money. Whether you choose to finance or pay cash is only your own business. There is no universally right answer, just self serving and often overly aggressively stated opinion.

you're correct if it is a private party.

Dealers do care. no credit check, just cashier's cheque and it's all done. so they know that we really could buy. besides, buying used in Indonesia is not as easy as it is here in the states. we usually buy new in indo.

i don't know about Indonasia, but having cash in hand at a dealer wouldn't mean that much.....actually they would prefer if you financed your purchase. they make additional revenue off of hooking you up with banks.

as a matter fact, letting a dealer know that you will finance with them can be a more effective bargaining tool than having cash in hand at times.

case in point.....

3 months ago i bought my mom a minivan. i had the cash to make a straight purchase, but when it came down to negotiating a price and we came to a stalemate where the dealer would go any lower....i shifted gears and told the dealer i'd be happy to finance with them if they dropped another 800$ in price.

they did, i financed with them....they made their additional cut, and 30 days later i paid the loan off.

If your looking has netted you tons of $$$, then quit complaining and keep looking. In ten years, I am sure you'd have netted enough to retire.

I am speaking from experience "You always get what you pay for" when you are looking for a cheaper used car regardless of the model, when you do find the one for a bargin price expect to shell out an additional money for maintenance or repair.

You are looking for an 08 M3, most of those are out of factory warranty and maintenance. A cheap example will have more than 50K miles which means it will need new tires for $2K. Probably a new battery sooner or later another coulpe hundred bucks and it will need inspection 2 really soon which will cost you another $2K and so on and so on.

My point is at the end you will spend more on your shiny new 08 M3 then if you did your math and spent the extra money on a newer car.

I am selling mine 'as-is' at KBB value, plus $1500 for my Akra Evo exhaust. Plus, I am throwing in all the OEM parts I've replaced over the years. A lot of car for the money!!
