Aren't tuners having a serious problem tuning the F10 M5?

OP, is your car stock otherwise? There is a long list of mods I want on my M3 before I put a supercharger on it. In fact, I don't think I'd ever want a supercharger.

Of course, I say that from a recently indoctrinated track addict. So I'd want track wheels, BBK, remote reservoir suspension, etc.

I don't think they're having problems per say, from my understanding the car comes tuned close to it's heat dispersion limits. Going any further requires a cooling system upgrade amongst other things.

The s65 m3 is over engineered in many people's opinion and thus the reason why many many supercharged versions are on the road problem free.
I'm no engineer but any engine/car that can handle a 50% power bump in stock form and hold itself together is remarkable.

Without having seen the new M4/M3 (thats going to take some getting used to) it's hard to say if this will be the case.

All that to say I'm holding on to my supercharged v8 until they stop making replacement parts!

Supercharge it until the F80 has been out long enough to know if it's a better car with more potential then the E9X!

I'm surprised the S63Tu has such a cooling system. I would imagine that the car doesnt do too well in hot climates. BMW's other forced induction offerings experience significant power loss when the IATs increase.

But anyway, I was talking more about steps BMW has taken to reduce the ease with which owners can tune their cars. The number of tuned N54s and N55's have caught their attention and, I though, BMW added some security feature to the M5s DME. Thereby, the car is now harder to tune. I thought that was the hold up.

About the S65's state of engineering, other BMW engines (N54 and N55) have and continue to handle 50% power increases, without issue. Plenty of 400whp N54s are running around, without so much as a few bolt-on mods and meth spray. Sure, that;s not optimal but, quite a few people have gone 70+k miles with an FBO x35i vehicle, without issue.

I wouldn't be too concerned with realiability, I just wouldnt bet my S65, (if I had one), on the unknown tunability of the S55, especially since BMW is hostile thowards our community. I think you are doing the right think, keeping your S65. I'd like to get into one, in the next year.

But I would wait for the second or third year of the f80 so they can work out the bugs...

Software on a boosted engine is going to unleash hell..

I'm biased towards SC but I only lightly charged it. Still made an incredible difference.

I think the F80 M3/M4 is going to be awesome but I would wait till it's sorted out.

I definitely wouldn't mind a version of my car that was several hundred pounds and had a HUD, but those aren't worth trading the S65 off, never mind the cost to trade up. I've driven a tuned 1M, and while it's definitely quick and I can't deny that the N54 is fantastic, the 1M just doesn't feel special the same way the M3 does because the S65 is just on a completely different level of fantastic.

Of course a lot of people said things like this about the S85 being replaced by the S63Tu in the M5, and now M5Post is full of former E60 owners who say they don't miss it. But then again I suspect that even among the M5Post community a higher percentage of those cars are used near exclusively as city/highway cruisers than in the M3Post community, whose cars I suspect are more likely to be used as weekend canyon carvers and track rats in addition to perhaps doing DD duty.
Its amazing how long you can stay in one gear to almost 9k rpm. That alone makes it for me. Sure there are faster cars but high redlines are just awesome. S2k to e90 to shit whats next for me a 458?!
