E93 Clunking sound w/top up over rough pavement
My new to me second E93 makes a clunking sound only with the top up over rough pavement or sewer covers in the road. My 08 never made that much noise. My 1st car had 18 inch wheels and tires, this car has the 19 inch setup. Sounds like it is coming from the left rear window area.

(probably) Same thing here. Houston has pavement imported from bombed-out Somalian cattle trails, meaning the roads here are crap. And I hear that clunk-sound frequently. Figure it is just something in the door. Or maybe it's the airbag about to detonate. Anyhow, some day I'll get out the tools and remove panels and try to find out what it is. But after 25,000 miles and 54 weeks, doesn't seem to get any worse or affect anything.

My 135i convertible did that - turned out that the interior liner, which in that car is a spandex sort of thing with a stretched-taught string tie-down, had a broken clip and it was flopping about. Hop into your rear seat and look around - it may just be something loose from the trim.

Same problem here. The "solution" from 2 dealers was to put felt tape on the package divider in the trunk.
Very upsetting to have such horrible rattles in an $80K+ vehicle.

Does this clunk happen only when the top is up and is the clunk coming from the front?
I recently had this issue with my 335i E93. It ended up being the roof latch pins (or something like that) needing adjustment. Easy fix at the dealer. I hope you get it fixed soon. If you are anything like me I hate when my Bimmers make noises they shouldn't Good Luck!

Noise comes from the rear in my car. It honestly sounds like pieces of the suspension are broken and rattling around, but such is not the case.

Yes, there's a clunk on mine from the roof on the driver's side with the top up, if you hit a bump hard enough. Haven't had any leakage or top problems, so no big.
Cheers

My e93 was almost dead silent and rattle free.. then I had leaking seals, which was replaced under warranty and a fried amplifier and speaker.. which took BMW 4 visits to fix.
Now I have a ping/pop noise from the front that happens quite frequently and occasional clunks from the rear. |

The only reason it is surprising is that my 08 did not have the clunking. Anyone think the 19" wheels harshen the ride thus contribute to this?

I am focusing on the driver's side windows and seals. Will try same paths with windows up and down and see if I see a change.

I was thinking about getting an E93
I'm in the market for an M3 and the E93 was high on my list but I was really concerned about clunking noises, rattles and leakage as the car starts to age. I'm glad I read this post. Are there any other problems owners have experienced with the E93?

NJDrive, this is a first world issue. It only clunks over really poor sections of road at high speed. We just had a new semi-highway installed and the numbnuts put a bunch of manholes on the road so poorly that some are really sunk down like shallow potholes. Otherwise she is like butter.
