Life is too short not to daily drive an m3.

I plan to drive my m3 for a very long time and hopefully reach a milestone like 2-300k miles. Just buy one and drive it and enjoy it, it’s just an m3. If it would make you happier in your life get one.

I use my 328i as a daily but sometimes I'll rotate with the M another week as a daily to slow down the mileage on the M but still enjoy it.

I daily drive my E90, putting over 20K miles a year. Besides the mentioned frequent fill ups, one other nag to consider for long highway drives is the flaky oil reading. If I drive for an extended trip I can get the add oil warning. Park the car overnight and the reading will return to normal.

Other costs to consider for maintenance are: oil changes and tires. Although it sounds like you will do much of the maintenance yourself, the cost of the consumables will be greater.

If your commute has interesting sections, the M3 will undoubtedly bring a smile to your face.

I was in the same boat as you before I sold it. My daily was an F30 328 too, and mileage was great.

In my experience, the long commute will kill the car. My 328 never once gave me an issue, but with 120k on it, it was feeling old, in the sense that pot holes would rattle the car in ways they never used to.

I killed that car to save my M3. But here in Jersey, where I sit in hours of traffic each day as I drive 60 miles to work, it would have been a waste. There are no open roads.

If you don't mind the added cost and maintenance of driving the M each day, then enjoy it! When I use maths, after 3 years you'll have about 65 k on the car in addition to what's on it when you buy it.

Do it OP, if you can maintain it, it's a no brainer. I wish i could drive mine daily but the parking situation at work is tight and I don't want to do hard time over dents and scratches!

Since I found out mine is pretty rare I wouldn't commute it, but I would buy another one for a DD... is that crazy? 😆

The economy is about to tank. The last thing you need is an expensive commute car that you need to pour lots of money into it. Oil is about hit $70 per barrel that means higher gas prices.

I love all these guys who are just like you only live once. That's true but while you're living you've go bills to pay. They don't just go away.

I would have never bought my M3 if I had to use it as a commute vehicle.

M3 if you don't mind filling the tank every two days or less but with fill ups $60 here I wouldn't want to do that. If I were driving 130 mi/day I'd be looking hard at a Model 3.

Do whatever you want to do to your car. Cause, it is your car.

Everyone will offer their own opinion. At the end of the day, you buy the fuel and replace the tires. Your choice as to how much and how often.

Cheers,

This comment would make more sense to me if we were talking about riding around on horses in the 1800s, because horses are actually living things...so we should then care how much we "use" them from day to day. A car? Come on, man....

Just drive the damn car, every day if you'd like, just take care of it. These ain't cars we bought at an auction for $2.5 million, these are cars that costs less than today's best Civics and Altimas, easily replaced with another E9X with so many in the market.

I drive my E93 all the time, though it's not my only car. I drive it the most though, only driving others when I need to haul 2+ people or if the weather isn't dry....including trips to the grocery store, to visit friends, to run local errands...even when it's cold out, because it's a decent enough "coupe" as well with the top up. And I take trips all the time, as long as possible.

Thus, I'll average about 28,000 to 30,000 miles per year, smiles upon smiles......in my 2013 E93 bought with 36,000 miles back in November 2017. It now has 73,000 miles, so 37,000 miles in about 18 months....which is about my normal average for all of the fun cars I've ever owned.

It's a car, and we only live once.....and I damn sure didn't buy it to preserve it with lower miles for any possible next owner. And if and when it goes KAPUT!, I'll decide then whether to jump to a 911 (which I'll drive the exact same way, averaging about 30,000 miles per year, taking as many trips as possible), or get another E9X, all while keenly watching how much I'm drawn to the next M3 generation, the G80....though I haven't warmed to the style of the latest 3 series, yet.

I think buying a higher-mileage E9X is fine, just get all the maintenance records and have a mechanic thoroughly check it out. E9Xs were well-built. So find a good deal on one, and then simply drive it and enjoy it, daily. If you don't, you'll most likely regret it later in life as a car enthusiast....realizing that you don't get to relive it. I promise you that experiencing the joy of driving right now at whatever age you are, it won't be the same when you're 60 or 70, if we're all lucky enough to live that long. If you love driving, then enjoy it now, while you can....as none of us are promised the means or ability (or the desire) to drive such great machines later.
This. I’m retiredt now but commuted 95 miles round trip in an e46m and an e90m. Had I purchased a Porsche GT3 new I wouldn’t have even considered it. I bought clean, well maintained m3s with 80k miles because I wante to drive them every day. Not save it for the next guy. Wouldn’t change a thing. Haven’t put 5k on the e90 in the two years I’ve been retired and it’s still a blast a at 118k. Even if I’ve lost $8k in resale value it was worth every penny.

Bought my e92 m3 to daily...i average 30 to 100 miles a day depending on where i am that day. Did it for a year and loved it. What i didnt love and what prompted me to make a change was the small gas tank and constant stops at gas stations.

So i kept the m3 and went and bought an f15 x5 for my daily and couldnt be happier. I havent saved a dime in fuel, but i can usually make it a full week and do my refueling on the weekends when I'm out running errands. My comfort level while sitting in traffic has gone way up. Plus, by keeping the m3, i can always choose to take it on a day where i know traffic will be light or my route takes me thru fun driving roads.

I know this isn't an option for everyone, but i couldnt be happier with how it worked out. I was surprised at how much it annoyed me to constantly change my route or time of departure depending on if i needed fuel that day. For others it may not bother them as much, but 2 years ago i would have thought it wouldnt bother me either. I did come from a 335d before so i was used to 400-500 miles between fill ups. I guess i didnt realize how sensitive my commutes and traffic were to small fluctuations in time and route.

I'm with the guy who said keep the 328i as a DD and M3 as the weekend car. I just bought an M3. Now my Z4 is my DD and the M3 my weekend car. I drive over 60 miles in the Z4 when I go to work. Traffic is usually pretty bad so it's not a fun drive for the M3. When I work weekend, I take the M3 when the roads are open and I can have fun with it.

Add up the extra cost, time spent in the gas station, doesn't seem worth it to me at all. Plus if you drive it everyday, you are unlikely to want to actually drive it properly on the weekends.

Mine is not so hard to drive that I don’t want to drive it. What I don’t want to do is drive a Prius or 328i.

Go for it, these cars can probably reach 300k if well maintained. Gas thing might bother me though, filling up every 2-3 days sounds insane. If you can keep the 328 and add the M3 that would be the best alternative.
