Cleaning the rear bumper
I have a question regarding my rear bumper. Since we installed catless exhaust, my rear bumper turned brownish/black, my car is silvesrtone2.
This stuff is very difficult to clean with known to me cleaners. Any suggestions what to use? |

A good cleaner wax in liquid form removes exhaust stains on paint. It will also leave the area shiny and protected. Any auto parts store has the Meguiar's Cleaner Wax. If heavily stained I would start with Meguiar's Ultimate Compound.

I have the nanoskin but the smaller one (sponge looking). IMO it is one of the greatest inventions ever and replaces the clay bar. It works just as well and I don't notice any issues with inducing swirls.

IMO if this is the first time then I would use a sealant, let it cure for a day, then put a top coat of wax. I am still a wax person and swear by Collinite 845. Right now it's layered over a coat of Rejex sealant and my car is Jet Black and looks great! (sits outside as well most nights).

Pros: - Depth of shine is incredible. Definitely has some small ability to hide very minor imperfections, at least temporarily. - Easy application -- wipe on, wipe off, buff. - Durability is outrageous. I compared this to Collinite 476 and 845 in simultaneous application on two different cars. Prep was identical, but the durability of the Sonax is literally 2+ times longer than either of the other products, and still going. This is the first product I've used where 3 months of durability isn't a pipe dream. - Relatively cheap. I've done a full-sized minivan and a station wagon, and it feels like the can is about 3/4 full. No need to go hog wild and spray the stuff thick. |

In the summer I go with the Colinite 476 and in the winter I use the Sonax. Our climate is all over the map (from +35 C to - 40 C) and we have extremely long winters. A lot of people recommended me the Sonax PNS and then their Brilliant Spray detailer. Unreal combo, if you're going to use a Paint Sealant, I'd go with that. One can will do 3 vehicles I'm told as well. Good luck! |
