Completely normal. These engines tend to burn oil.

I was going to say that it's probably normal after an oil change, but if it's been two weeks make a note of it and observe over the next few hundred miles.

LOL you freak out over everything. Surprised you didn't tell him it was related to the rod bearings.

It's completely normal. Just keep 2 quarts of oil in your trunk like most other ppl here do.

I also keep a waterproof tarp and bleach in my trunk. But this is not oil change related...

If you're talking about the green bar in the iDrive then it only indicates the level of one quart. So you have to top off with a quart soon, not the whole oil level. But two weeks after a change and already used more than half a quart seems a bit much.

Sounds like the dealer didnt top the car off properly. Take it back to them and have them top it off. If it happens again in less than a month, i would be worried.

Never had this issue. If you're under warranty, don't sweat it and take her back and see what the SA recommends.

The oil indicator probably just took a while to update. I sympathize with the techs not topping it all the way up because the electronic dipstick is so finicky about giving an accurate reading in the first place, and if they overfill, they have to drain it out of the bottom. Add 1/4 quart (even though it says it wants 1/2), drive for at least 5 miles, then pull over and tell your car to remeasure the oil level while idling on a level surface. You may have to tell it to remeasure two or three times before it moves. If you get it to show 3/4 full, leave it alone!!

You can also ask your SA to give you a quart or two to keep for topoffs so you don't have to go to the dealer all the time. My SA gives me two every time I come in with a low oil indicator and don't have any more left in the bottles.

Mime did that. They prob didn't drive it to get the oil in all the nooks and crannies then top it out that's all. Either that or you're leaking say pm a filter or plug not retorqied properly. Decision is easy either way, get them to finish the job by topping out of and then keep am eye pm it for another few weeks

1-Freak out ....?
Always with a good reason, OP is saying "half left after only 2 weeks" and after oil change !
So for me personal I'll repait... That's not normal !

2-About your joke and freak out about the bearings...
Very low oil level and knowing the Worldwide bearing problems, don't think my friend that's a good combination ???

3- About our bearings, yes again ! If you only would know what is going on ,you would realy freak out !(And that's not LOL )
Your reaction is normal because your response is equal to ignorance...
But I've nothing against you ,even when you are joking with me !
My reactions having a reason, believe me !

I think OP is under the impression that the green electronic dipstick is reading all of the oil. As someone noted, that's reading about a quarts worth. So take it back and have them top off your oil..........Phil

The only time mine has ever burned any measurable amount of oil at all was when I had her singing to me on some mountain roads one day. I figure 8000+ on the regular will do that for you.

Point is these cars (as most do) will and should burn oil. People who say, mine doesn't are not helping. The car SHOULD use oil

True but if the Op just drove cross country, I would think he would have pointed that out.

I drove nearly 5k miles before needing to add a quart

You're assuming that the car actually burned half a quart in those 2 weeks. It's far more likely that it just took the dipstick that long to display the true measurement, which is unfortunately very much par for the course with this electronic nuisance if you never do what I described in my earlier post. I once had my oil reading drop from 3/4 full to the bottom "Add 1qt" while just cruising down the freeway on a Friday night on the way to a track day! Luckily I got to a dealership right before they closed that night to buy more oil, so I was still able to enjoy my whole Saturday (the track shop didn't carry 10W-60.) But even after adding a quart I had to pull over and remeasure while idling for it to update.
