Angel eye issues

Purchased my car back in February. 09 E90 M3. Previous owner stated he removed the bulbs for the angel eyes. That being said they haven't worked and id receive error notifications for left and right driving lights not working. Understandable

Today i decided to finally install new bulbs. After installing they still dont work and the error messages still come up..

Am i missing something perhaps?

Thanks

Scan the car and look for short circuit fault codes. Usually when a light specifically the angel eye is out for a while the car will go into fail safe and throw a short circuit fault. You need to reset the short circuit fault with a coding tool or find someone local to do it. If there is no short circuit fault I would check the ballasts

Are you throwing a short circuit fault code? If so you can't just clear it, you have to use tool32 to clear the short circuit fault. Search "e92 how to clear short circuit fault" there are a few good detailed guides on the process.

Ahhh okay definitely my mistake then! I just tired to clear it. But I see a detailed thread on it now. Going to give that a shot this weekend. Thanks!

Well i used Tool32 and INPA Cleared the faults everything worked. but as soon as i keyed the car off or back on it throws the fault again.. Unfortunately ive never messed with the lights in the car so i am going to assume it has a short somewhere or a blown fuse. Any idea which fuse would control the angel eyes? most of the wiring checked out.

Thanks

The short circuit protection has been tripped you need a proper coder to reset the FRM module for you and disable to short circuit protection to enable power back to the angel eye lines.

So i am bumping this back up because i am still having an issue. I have checked all the fuses and have since switched my headlights for retrofitted ones that worked with zero issues on the vehicle i got them from. I have cleared the codes multiple times using a snap on scanner and a Dcan cable and the moment i push the start button to turn off the vehicle power it instantly throws those same codes listed above... Potentially a battery issue? or perhaps actually an issue in the wiring?

Thanks guys! This has been so irritating because i had no issues swapping a TA on the car and installing a blower but cant get the stupid DRLs to work -___-

Download ISTA/D, scan the car and let it calculate a test plan for you. Inpa isn't the best diagnostic tool

Figured out the issue!

Previous owner had the car coded and whoever coded it must have messed up the coding for the angel eyes...

Who can recode my car? Ive heard Alpine Alex is really good but i have had zero luck reaching out to him

Trust me if you can install a blower then you can code.

You can try Carly which is pretty much fool proof (toggle options + ability to save existing state)

Hey were you able to figure out the coding situation and fix your lights? I have the same issue after some condensation driver side.

This issue in the thread isnt the common short circuit reset fix. Scan the car and see what code is popping up under the FRM. If it's a short circuit fault then you need to use tool32 to reset it. If water damaged the bulb you'll need a new bulb or if the ballast is damaged you'll need a new ballast. Switch the angel eye bulbs from left to right, if it follows then it's the bulb. If it stays then it could be the ballast or as I mentioned a short circuit fault but the only way you'd know is from scanning the car.

It can also be your FRM module. They tend to go bad a lot and BMW has extended the warranty on them. 8 years I believe.
