I have heard you can do it with undiluted ammonia but it's a huge mess and frustrating. You may want to just ask a tint shop in your area what they charge for removal.

I would but I would rather do it if I can. I trust myself more to take care. If all else fails thats what I will do.

Fair enough, but there are plenty of good tint shops out there -- just do your research.

Some quick Googling revealed that the ammonia method is the best, but reading some of these how-to guides just makes me go "fuck that, I'll pay someone."

I removed mine a couple years back with minimal residue left over by using a steamer, heating the tint up and peeling. The steamer will make the glue lift and stick to the actual tint as apposed to sticking to the window. Any left over glue on the window, you can use a razor blade and soap and water mix to lubricate the window to use the razor blade. Be careful with the rear window though it's very easy to damage the defrosters.

steamer for working on clothes, i took a full car tint with it. Works flawlessly, didnt even have to use a razor and soap afterwards. The key is not to rush, take ur time using the steamer on the tint and window

Google and YouTube. Both those sites have excellent DIYers for this. The back window can be a PITA so use caution.

Word of caution, make sure you don't destroy the rear window defroster lines when you do it.

Steamer x3

Very easy, just take your time. I've also heard of spraying the window with ammonia and sticking a trash bag to that and letting it sit out in the sun for a while and the tint will peel off like a static cling sticker.

Interested, want to do the same. Actually I wouldn't mind a really light tint for the dark tint look is played out for me too.

If you want the heat and IR blocking capabilities without the dark color, look at stuff like 3M Crystalline. It's available in transmission percentages like 70 -- I have it on my car and you can't even tell it's tinted (very faint light blue color), but it blocks almost as much heat/IR as a 30% film.

Here's 3M Crystalline 70 on my car, if you're curious how it looks.

I removed tint before on a four door car. I just peeled the tint off then I used a rag and paint thinner to wipe off the glue. It took me about and hour.

I was trying to force myself to check out your blue tinted windows, but I didn't get anything out of it as all I could do was admire your car.

Exactly this ^. I have done it on several cars and it is a piece of cake.

This seems to be the method but I am worried about using a razor blade eon the back windows. Maybe another method for the rear windshield?

Yes, instead of using the regular razor blade, we used the rubber squeegee for the rear window.

Use a less abrasive scotchbrite or scrub pad and some foam window cleaner (sprayway) to get the glue off of the back window. It'll take some elbow grease.

And as far as the razor blades go, make sure to use STAINLESS razor blades. Carbon blades can scratch the glass.
