Shrieking Feline Mod on Betty (Updated with Dyno)

November 27th Update- Went to Dyno the Car last night

The car pulled very consistent graphs. This is an old dyno that wouldn't let me register over 8K rpm, but I did my baseline here so I thought it's still a good reference. Gains are respectful for a Stage 1 Kit.

Stock Whp - 343.0
Blown Whp - 466.5
Gain - 123.5

Stock WTorque - 243.0
Blown WTorque - 340.0
Gain - 97

Now I need to find another Dyno that lets me go over 8000rpm

Name: Betty
Description: 2011 Jerez Black M3 Saloon 6MT ZCP
Review: Harrop TVS1740 Supercharger

Background:
BPMSport recently became a distributor for Harrop. I have nothing but praise and respect for Mike as I have experienced the BPM engine tune & coding service. Knowing that I would be able to reach Mike by phone, email, skype, or whatsapp is very reassuring throughout the purchase and installation process. The best part about getting the Harrop kit from BPM instead of directly from Harrop is that I can keep features from the engine tune such as the lower cold start and the amazing servotronic tune.

Installation:
In Hong Kong, there aren’t many shops with the experience of installing superchargers for the E9x M3. Having installed a ESS 625 kit on another E92, as well as my brakes & suspension, Zillion Performance was given the task of installing my kit. With an installation guide of 53 pages, it took 2 days to install the hardware and 2 days for the wiring. Mike @ BPM sent me the tune file. Using the same cable for the engine tune (environmentally friendly), loaded the tune in 5 minutes, starting the car was without any hiccups.

… then the parking sensors malfunctioned, so bumper had to come off as the one of the plugs was loose. Then I got a “Increased Battery Discharge“ warning, and that annoyed me for a night because the mechanic had unplugged the battery completely for the installation, and apparently Betty didn’t like that. After spending time with Betty from 9pm-11pm, I noticed that she smelled funny, and thought it was gasoline fumes coming from the engine bay. Turns out it was just the smell of engine oil from the PCV/blow by, and yes it was my mistake for not distinguishing the smell of fuel from oil.

Review & Thoughts:
It’s kind of hard to describe the sensation when the boost comes on, so first I’ll explain how it works. There’s an electronic bypass in the system, and usually it is open to let Betty breathe normally. You step on it, and the bypass closes within 0.5sec, and Betty now whines a lot, and by a lot I mean she’s now a shrieking feline, coming for your throat. The power and power delivery is similar to that of a Mercedes SL55 AMG (I was driving one as I was waiting for Betty to come back), and that it is linear without lag or spiking. You don’t have to wring the engine out to go somewhere, there’s now a depth to the power, which gives you more flexibility in any driving conditions. Stop & go is now easier with the additional torque.

Smooth one Harrop, Betty likes.

My installer weighed the stock parts taken off, and it's 20lbs. The Harrop System is 75lbs. So net gain is 55lbs.

That's great that there is a definitive answer to the question of the kit's added weight. The power most certainly offsets that small addition.

Would you mind sharing your dyno results once complete? I'm sure everyone is dying to see production kit numbers on the type of dyno we are most familiar with.

Yeah, I had a baseline done 2 days before I went to install this kit, and I'll be going to the same dyno again to do the post upgrade dyno.

That's awesome man! How long will it take for the car to "adapt" to the new equipment?

Haha, ok. When I played the video on my phone there was no sound. Must have been my phone because I can hear it on my computer. I was like, "this guy posted a silent video cruising around town?" lol

Car sounds great!!
