W212 isn't electronically controlled? It's just a dumb LSD of some kind, at least in the states

Are you talking about W213 which is an e-diff. I was just under mine doing fluid (2015 W212 E63S 4matic), three are no wires running to the diff in mine, no extra actuators, etc., just a pumpkin and some fins for cooling and two holes for fluid with a breather like the one in the E90M

PM'd Florian, but thought I'd make it public information.

Ok so I am ready to buy the supporting parts for my E39 M5 LSD + clutch pack retrofit on my E46 M3. Also plan to add a 4.10 R&P. I read through all of the pages on this thread but I could not find a specific parts list for E46 M3 for the complete swap and refresh/supporting parts. This is what I've gathered:

x1 210mm E46 M3 casing
x1 E39 M5 or similar LSD

Timken inner pinion bearing - HM803149
Timken inner pinion race - HM803110
Timken outer pinion bearing - HM89448
Timken outer pinion race - HM89410
Timken carrier bearing (X2) - JLM104948
Timken carrier race (X2) - JLM104910

x2 crush sleeves 33121204657
X1 locking ring 33121205138
x1 pinion seal 33121213949
x2 carrier seals 33107510289
x2 o-rings for the flange 33111214144
x10 ring gear bolts 33132227347
x2 dust covers 33122283079
x2 dust covers 33137840562

Axle stubs: "m3 3.2 e36, e34 210 axles (except m5)"

Gasket seal Loctite 5970
Diff Oil (any recommendations?)

Anything else I need? I have a short rebuild tine for my next event so would like to make sure I have absolutely everything.

Also as for the preload, I found this setting from someone who did a 4.10 rebuild for E46 M3 GKN Viscolok. Can I simply use the same settings?

Carrier Preload 15-20 inch pounds
Pinion preload 15-20 inch pounds
Backlash .0033"-.00498" measured in thousandths.

That looks right. I have a set of REM polished bearings and races if you're interested.

Does anyone know if putting 4.10 gears into the E92 M3 case required conversion of pinion bearings to the E46 setup? Is case modification required?

Or can we use the factory ball bearing type inner and outer pinion bearings with the 4.10 pinion?

driftflo Hey Florian, hope all is well! My LSD is over at Syncro Design Works getting assembled - can't wait for it (and the rest of my car) to be ready to go!

Question for you - what are your thoughts on a carbon fiber driveshaft combined with one of your drexler lsd builds? The current gen MF Factory driveshaft seems to be looked at favorably so far. Wanted to see what your thoughts were first before adding the cf driveshaft to your 8 clutch pack drexler lsd w/3.62s that I have.

Thanks!

great, please give david my best regards!

i have no experience with these driveshafts at all.
i had some serious problems with their lsd units and finally stopped selling them.
so i was not willing to spending more of my money and time in their other products. but maybe the driveshafts are of better quality?!
but it definitely does not matter which lsd or fd ratio you use if thinking about a different driveshaft.

Do the modified ZF units require different side flanges? The GKN diff uses a really long and a short side flange.

On the OS giken installation instructions you have to buy a long side flange to replace the short one, then shorten both the long side flanges to 78mm

https://osgiken.net/file/12401-BMW+E...dification.bin

Does the ZF unit work with the 2 long ones or must they be machined down?

the oe flanges only work with the oe gkn lsd core. for any other lsd you will need different flanges.

The oem p/n previously posted is for wavetrac. They are e39 M5 flanges and will be plenty happy in a zf clutch lsd as well.
