Rear Mount Twin Turbo kit interest
Hey guys, this is just a quick post to see if there is any interest in a rear mount twin turbo system. My last few cars ago have consisted of 3 GTOs 04,05,and an 06 all with Rear Mounted STS kits. They Make SICK Power! @ 9psi I made 665RWHP on a stock LS2 with bigger inj., fuel pump and Meth. I'm almost positive this is going to be what I'm going to be doing with my e92. It's going to be a couple of month project but my car is going to be out of commission anyways because the weather so I figured it would be perfect opportunity to do something like this.
YOu CANNOT deny the CRAZY POWER and SOUND! It uses twin scavenger pumps for oiling, most other kits on the market only have 1. Probably going to end up going with twin T3/T4 hybrid turbos and a custom built intake manifold to handle the boost. Let me know if you guys foresee any and stumbling blocks ahead of me. ie: I just fount out that that intake manifold cant take boost. it'll leak or break. Stuff like that. -Joe |

Hell yea man you know im down to try.... it really shouldnt be that hard the only thing is the manifold like you said. Just make it out of aluminum like G-power but just dont powdercoat it orange

Think i found a solution..... obviously build it to where its square on top and has 8 cylindrical tubes coming off of it to go into the throttle bodies. Then just use t-bolt clamps to hold the aluminum intake to the throttle bodies so you don't have any boost leak.......

The major difference is the turbo(s) are mounted in the rear of the car, near the end of the exhaust, rather than straight of the header(s). This method is preferred in situations where space is very limited. This minimizes the amount of difficult work needed under the hood, to get the turbo(s) to fit. I'm not a turbo expert, but the negative to this, is that there is a much longer path for the exhaust gas to get to the turbo, and obviously for the turbo to get compressed air back to the intake manifold. I believe this will add to lag and other unwanted characteristics to become much more of a factor. But, they do make numbers, and if the price is right, THEY WILL COME....

I'm not gonna lie it is extra pipe but all it is, is just another set up pipes going to the front. I'm telling you guys I wouldn't do it if it wasn't worth it. You will all see |

Yea i think me and JEMarsal are gonna go for it. The main thing is tunning. We will probly talk to Active about that. Also the intake manifold. But that shouldnt be to big of a problem.
Alot of people think rear mounts have lag. But that's not true you just have to use the right turbos. They are sick! One thing i love about a rear mount is the sound

For those who think these systems are laggy, go look at the dyno charts for cars with STS turbo kits. It's not like these are new or unproven, they've been making big numbers with virtually no lag for a long time.

ok i was looking at g-power's intake why is there 2 seperate pieces or orange boxes? also what are the lines with banjo fitings on top of the intake coolant lines? Im guessing coolant runs through the intake to act like a intercooler? anyone know?

Thats serious business with the G-Power setup. What are the gains this baby is pumpin' out? but yea i reckon the coolant does run thru the intake poising as an intercooler. I was thinking of that setup for perhaps mid to late 2009. Does anyone know if ESS have done a kit for the E92?

Ok so first of all Chris, yes that's a water to air ic(good for track use but not recomended for daily cars, personally I would not do that, it just eaquals more stuff to put on the car and I think the front mount looks pretty bad a$$.
The stock LS2 was a 364 ci(6.0 l), I believe. I've been in talks with squires about this kit, but I don't think they want to take on the intake manifold challenge, something I'm more than willing to do. Tuning shouldn't be a problem at all...hopefully |
