2008 M3 cp w/EDC.. can I run Coilovers?
Hi guys this is my first E92 M3. Ive had a ton of E36, and E46 M3's.
Anyhow I want to put some coilovers on the car, and im wondering if I can do that with the EDC? Will it throw a light/codes? Im sure this can be done. Let me know the best way to handle it. Also Please tell me what are the best Coilovers under $1500. Thanks!

You can run coilovers on an edc car but it will throw an error code. Either buy an emulator or code the error out. Best coilovers under $1500? Used ones

There are two code emulators available (that I'm aware of) - KW Emulators and Macht Schnell Emulators. As others stated, an alternative is to have someone on code out the warning. A dealer would not do that for you. You could use one of the venders on this forum such as EAS Tuning, BPM, Alekshop or Alpine. I would bet that ACM could do the coding as well.
As for your budget.... I agree with others that you are better off increasing your budget to around $2500. That should allow you to purchase KW Clubsports or Ohlins R&T used on the forum. I don't think the H&R's are horrible but they are not adjustable and have a reputation for being stiff. The only forum member that I can think of who runs them is "Endless619". Shoot him a PM and see what he says about them.

OP, I'm running the GC coilover kit w/camber plates on my EDC '08 E90. I've had them on for 8 months now. I'm not throwing any codes, nor did I ever. We installed it in my garage, and didn't code for anything.
For those saying not to get anything under $1500, I have had no complaints with the kit, nor the ride. My car is dropped a bit, but nothing radical (1 finger gap all the way around). There are a few reviews on the kit if you do a little searching. Welcome aboard! Last edited by whats77inaname; 09-12-2013 at 11:41 AM.. |

Yeah, I was originally worried about the camber plates as people were reporting the bolts weren't weld well enough, but everything went together smoothly. |

H&R coil overs are under 1500. I don't know about m3 but I had them for 2 years on a 335i with no problems at all. Loved them.

I have H&R with Swift Springs. I have had them for a couple years now and they work great. I loved them on my old Z4MC. Drop was just right. The issue with them was on the older E46 M3. They had some quality control issues over 8 years ago but they have come up since then. They use Bilstein shocks if I am not mistaken. Good setup for under $1500. I use my car mainly for street and weekend duty so they will suffice. I had KW V3s on my old M3 and they worked great as well. Honestly the H&R ride just as good as my KW V3s. The H&R's do have a history of riding a little rough with thin tires. Both are great sets if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg on suspension. If I was going to track my car on weekends and daily drive I would go Aragosta with Swift Springs.

Incorrect. There are a couple setups under $2000 worth trying. I have ran $8000 setups and $1500 setups. Depends on what you use them for and how much adjustability you want.

this includes KW v3, which do not ride nearly as well as stock on the street and are really not that much better on the track. they are also not 1500 dollars. the only setup I have thought is worth buying is Ohlins RT which is 3k. this is considering a dual street / track setup you cannot get adequate quality dampers in a kit for under 1500 dollars in my experience. not possible. |

Used V3s can be had for under $2000. I also never even considered KW anything on my NSX. It was too average for the heavily modified crowd over 5 years ago. They are the best bang for your buck and by no means a top 5 setup. Ohlins was considered slightly above average on the NSX and S2000 platforms and I would never consider them as I had Moton and Aragosta for my track and street use. So unfortunately I disagree with you with my coilover experience. For street use there are tons of coilovers on all platforms that will suffice. You just have to get out and experiment, not just take magazine articles or word of mouth from friends/enthusiasts. Sorry. BTW I mean no disrespect. I did manage to find one of my Aragosta/Swift setups.... These were on before my Endless BBK's setups.. I was into suspension setups years ago. Not so much now. I do recall saying that KW and Ground Control were complete trash setups to many NSX owners. At the time it was true in my eyes as all I knew was Moton, Zeal, Aragosta, Ohlins, etc.. But now after owning KW V3s I have to say they were an excellent setup for what they are. Same goes for BBK. I have had about 10 different caliper kits and IMO the best are still Brembo and Endless. I can go on and on with the pros and cons of both and Project Mu, Stop Tech, Wilwood, etc... But I wont bore anyone. Sorry I got off topic..
