As far as I was aware, if you don't have the "M" button on the steering wheel, you cannot have sport+. But I change my M-drive settings via the I-drive menu and controller so id be interested to know how you would even activate sport or sport+ as far as throttle response goes without I-drive or M-drive.

Now, you people with the zcp functionality can set your suspension dampening modes, and I believe you get comfort, normal and sport (edc). Do not confuse this with normal, sport, and sport+ throttle settings. I believe that option came with the tech package, zcp package, and potentially as a standalone M-drive feature, but you have to have the "M" button on that steering wheel. If you have a zcp model, The "M" button allows you to (via the I-drive menu) map your suspension(edc), throttle response, stability control(dsc) and steering input settings to one button (M button). So when you press that button once, all your parameters will change and the car will feel very different. My car does not have edc, so i can only map throttle, steering, and dsc to my M button.

However, everyone is right, if your car has no M-drive and you want sport+ throttle response just floor it. I have a 6mt and I don't feel like sport+ is too twitchy, and use it all the time, but I love the quick throttle response without having to almost floor it. This does give somewhat of a non-linear acceleration feel. That's ok though, I think it makes the flat torque curve feel even longer.

you can control edc without zcp. zcp is just a competition package, stiffer springs, 10mm lower, rims..

If you really want throttle response like a Nissan Sentra, just install a sprint throttle booster.

I’m pretty sure that you only get normal or sport throttle modes on the non-iDrive cars. As noted, it’s a benefit. The problem with Sport Plus is that by giving you lots of throttle in the first part of the pedal travel, it effectively makes the rest of the gas pedal a dead zone. It really sucks when you push on the pedal and nothing more happens.

no sport+ without idrive, and also you can separate heavy steering from m mode if you wanted to do that. I race without m mode on, edc on 2, power mode OFF and dsc off. throttle is way too sensitive to begin with

should still have the power mode button for throttle sensitivity. not sure how that differs with sport+ throttle mode.

not entirely true... from what i read there is a difference in the sport mode in EDC between zcp and non-zcp. the zcp sport mode damping is regulated with non-zcp sport mode is fixed : https://www.bmwblog.com/2010/05/13/b...e-even-faster/

+MDM mode to allow more slip. Does ZCP also apply brake rather than just cutting power...cant remember.

I never use sport+ or even sport on the street or track. I leave it in normal throttle all the time. Last thing you need is a super sensitive throttle while you're trying to modulate traction.

I put it in sport plus when my wife is driving. She doesn't know what it does, but it helps me enjoy her driving a bit more!

So on the F80 u get a different exhaust sound, flaps open etc. in Sport+ vs Comfort/ efficient. Is E9x Sport + just a throttle response mapping?

Agreed, I have my M button set to Sport for that reason. Sport Plus is too twitchy on tougher roads.

There is no such thing as sport+ on the stripper, non iDrive cars. You still have the power button which sharpens the throttle, edc button (i have the comp package as well), and the m button on the steering wheel.

The only bummer with not having iDrive in the newer, 2011+ cars is that you can't stream audio from your phone, despite having combox.

With the power button activated, the throttle is perfectly sharp on my car. I couldn't image it being even more sensitive.

I was pretty excited until I've been reading a little more into it, do you REALLY lose the ability to set the car throttle to Sport Plus without iDrive?

I did a search and I'm getting conflicting answers. Some say you can't even set the car to Sport Plus throttle without iDrive, is that true? Or is it only true for the earlier model cars.

I would hate to think BMW would remove that ability just because it doesn't have iDrive. I mean I don't care about leather, power seats, heated seats ect. but if I'm losing a key performance setting, I might have to rethink everything... Please help!

Nice pick up! Does the car have edc? I have the same setup in an e90, full speed cloth seats( there are 2 styles ), no edc, no pdc, no idrive, no nav, no comfort access, 6 speed and its LCI.

Ended up not buying the car after driving 12 hours round trip.

The car was nearly perfect in every way but at one point it looks like somebody gave it a massive driver side door ding on the crease. Looks like the original owner (not the seller) took it to some monkey PDR guy and made it look 10x worse. I could spot the damage about 20 feet away. I'm OCD when it comes to my cars and to make it perfect and up to my standards I would need to have body work done, either replacing the whole door shell, possibly the door and repaint/blend etc. Went through this same exact headache back in the days when I had a massive door ding on the crease of my 335i, the paint and texture was never the same. This ordeal was something I was not willing to repeat.

Sucks big time! Took the wife and kids with me as well, at least we got a road trip out of it and got to see the Golden Gate Bridge.

She was an absolute beauty other than the door damage. Breaks my heart still, had the cashiers check already made out.

was the metal bent? Mine has a similar ding that was 'professionally' touched up. Basically a chip in the paint from a car door right at the crease. I'm currently trying to touch it up better using the Langka repair kit. It's looking a lot better but with metallic paint, it's hard to get the touchup paint to lay down right to blend in (plus i simply do not have the patience or skill for this type of work). White and black are supposedly the easiest colors to touch up. The real pros seem to want to paint the entire panel and blend in. Probably a reason for that...

Sucks about the ding but if it bothered you now it will always bother you and will take away from the overall enjoyment.

And thanks to this thread, I found something new about the e9x M3's after almost 5 years of ownership. I never knew there were 3 throttle modes, I thought it was just Normal and Sport. I always had my M-mode set to Sport+ and didn't know there was a Sport option right below it. Tried it out for the first time and it's a huge change from the Sport+ for sure. Gotta try it out more to see if I like it.

Literally same for me too, after 2+ years of ownership.

At least I know not to drive it like my tuned 335... 😂
