Should i sell my m4 convertible for e93 m3

I have a 2016 m4 convertible dct. Feels so big compared to the e93. There is a low mileage m3 e93 in my area, it's also 15k less than my m4. I am thinking a no brainer right? If the m3 is in good condition, good tires, etc. Any thoughts?

F83 is a pretty nice car, I’m all about the e9x chassis but the e93 has a tendency to fall apart overtime. The roof

Really? I did not know that. Thanks for the heads up. I will take a thorough look at it. Its a 2013 with 28k miles.

In reality the f83 is about 2" longer and weighs about 300lbs less. I've never driven an f83 but I do agree an e9x doesn't feel it's size behind the wheel. If it's your daily I'd keep the f but if it's a toy I'd consider switching to the e, you'd probably pocket some cash too..

I made this very same move.. went from a 2015 M4 convertible to a 2012 E93 M3 (I'd had a few E93 M3's in the past so I was already familiar with them).. there is nothing like the power band and the sound of the E9x M3's.. and its so much more fun to drive than the M4 was.. I find myself with a smile on my face in the M3 more often than I did in the M4.. only exception is the gas consumption.. won't be as good in the M3, but you don't buy these cars for their gas mileage

Just my opinion, but I'd say go for it.

Thank you. Very helpful. Yes i think the fun to drive factor is real. The e93 just feels tighter.

Every now and then you'll hear something along the lines that the roof is a problem in the e93. No problems here and know of no one with any issues, except from on-line. Don't worry about it.

10 years in and no issue with my e93 m3 roof so I don't buy into the falling apart over time comment . You need to consider there is maintenance associated with it to keep seals tight and pivot points lubricated. Older models (2008-9) have one cable that tends to fray but is an easy DIY to replace with $14 in parts.

e93 water leaks from the roof can be very expensive to repair, also the roof can develop annoying rattles/creaks that are also costly to repair...

None of which happen when you perform yearly maintenance on the top.

You’re one person, BMW sold how many thousand E93 M3 convertibles? Don’t feel attacked. Ive driven a handful of E93’s when i worked at the dealer and every single one had a creaky roof, the 9 out of 10 majority of verts will not have a roof as good as yours.

Yeah, I've got 82k miles on my '08 E93 and have had zero issues with the roof. I don't know where people come up with this stuff because the folding roof mechanism actually seems like one of the more reliable things BMW has engineered in the last 15 years.

It's especially hilarious that people are telling a guy that already owns a BMW retractable hardtop car that he shouldn't buy another because the retractable hardtop has extremely vague "issues over time".

To be fair, saying you've got minimal experience with five or fewer E93s doesn't seem like a better anecdote than what those of us here that have owned and used them for years have experienced. They've been using the same top mechanism in multiple models for over a decade now with minor or no changes, so it kinda seems that they've deemed it to be pretty robust.

And I went from an M4 to an E93, and I agree with this assessment 100%.

My M4 was super quick once the turbos spooled up, but not nearly as dramatic and smile-inducing to me when compared to my E93.

Wow, two guys that went from M4s to E93. I would as well... half the point of the convertible is listening to the awesome sound.

E93 tops are incredibly durable. One of the most durable things BMW has designed

Really appreciate all the insight. I am leaning towards the m3 i used to have one as well and it is much tighter and more fun to drive than the m4. The only thing that the m4 has that the m3 doesn't is the m4 will smoke most anything on the road, mustangs camaros, will prob smoke most vettes, especially with an ESS or Dinan tune. While the m3 will get beat off the line most likely. But overall driving experience I gotta give it to the e93. Its a tough call.

Get an ESS supercharger on the E93 and you will smoke almost everything short of McLaren's on the road (including F80 M3's...)

I'm sure a Harrop would make a E93 really great with a great exhaust

Im just saying, a lot of people dont do any maintenance, gummy phledge or lubrication and then complain they have problems. Its quite a symphony of parts moving and if you take care of it like you do the rest of the car and dont ignore its needs, you are not destined to creaky leaky problems.
