5w60 oil

why not just used the mfg suggested oil and swap the bearings? not worth playing with oil that could potentially be harmful

Race cars run thinner oil to make more power. As an example, IIRC, Turner was running Motul 0w20 in the E46 M3 grand am cars. You slightly reduce friction losses with thinner oil.

Just a question of what you're trading in durability. (For marginal gains.)

Nominally, a 5w60 is suppposed to be about as thick as a 10w60 when hot, though. So you *might* have slightly better cold start lubrication, but it's going to be a similar thickness when hot. Of course, the wider the range, the more likely the oil is to shear down.

I've ran Motul 300v once and my butt dyno noticed a difference in responsiveness.

Just took a peek at the specs and... there aren't many. There's what looks like a whole page of specs here, but they're all just thresholds, e.g. sulfated ash 1.5% max, Noack volatility 13% max, etc., so you don't know what the actual numbers are.

The safety data sheet is somewhat revealing. Looks like there's a lot of PAO and a significant dose of ester. That's a step in the right direction. The thing that worries me a bit is the ZDDP number: "1.4% max", or up to 1400 PPM. Kind of makes me wonder if the sulfated ash number isn't close to that 1.5% "max" after all. Anything near 1400 ppm ZDDP or 1.5% sulfated ash is pretty damn high. Having a lot of anti-wear action is nice, but the ash that tends to come with it isn't.

It's possible that this is absolutely killer stuff, but I wouldn't want to guinea-pig it in an S65.

Just adding my testimony here, but Motul 300V 15w-50 pulled the hardest right from the get go. (louder engine, more torque at high load conditions)

That feeling eventually goes away after about 3000km though.

Not in the sense of ticking noise. It feels the engine is pushing harder. Awakened may be a better term.

Their logo is also a knockoff of Motul's. I agree that this looks to be a race oil, the high ZDDP and sulfated ash are not going to be healthy for a motor over the long term.

What is it about this oil that is so appealing?
