ICONZ Wheel (Partial Review)

This review is a repost of a review I posted in another section of the forum earlier today. I thought I'd repost in the proper forum:

I ordered the Iconz 630ZR from Daniel (username: TheModCity). I had several requests to post a review but am in a dispute with the vendor so I'll give the basics here.

When I ordered the wheels, I asked Dan for wheel weights as was told "around mid-20s". I then ordered the extreme lightweight package and was told it would reduce the weight by 3-4 lbs per wheel. However, when I received the wheels (Iconz 630ZR) they weigh as follows:

Fronts: 29 lbs each (19x9)
Rears: 30 lbs and 31 lbs (19x10)

Since it appears Iconz is unwilling to offer a refund, this will most likely be going through the credit card dispute process. Luckily I still have every single Yahoo Msg and email. I literally have every word that has transpired between me and Dan organized chronologically. The dispute package will be in the neighborhood of 70 pages but guarantees to be an eye-opening read for those who have or are considering ordering 2-piece forged wheels.

The latest email I have from Dan clarifies that, like many 2-piece wheels, Iconz uses cast barrels and they are the same barrels used by Asanti and Lexani.

Daniel@themodcity has been on this forum for several years. I known him for a while now, and he is an extremely helpful person. I bought wheels from him in the past and he has always been great. I have iconz wheels too, and owned tons of other brands as well. My wheels weighed around 26.5 pounds, for 19 inch as well, which is a weight I am very pleased with.

Daniel@themodcity, if you look around this forum, has tons of customers all that ordered iconz wheels that are extremely happy and he probably has the most positive feedback on this entire forum. I say this because Dan has always helped me in the past and I actually have been screwed over by other vendors, which I dont want to mention any names. So I am very pleased with themodcity and will continue to support them.

I'm glad to hear that you had a good experience with Dan and Iconz wheels. Unfortunately, I have not. I was promised wheels in the "mid 20s" then bought to extreme lightweight package that I was promised reduced the weight by 3-4 lbs per wheel. However, the wheels I received weigh 29-31 lbs.

When the dispute is settled I may offer the dispute package for any forum member to review. It contains each and every word exchanged between Dan and myself. It is quite revealing and I'm sure will open a lot of people's eyes to the experience I have had.

Update: Credit card company ruled in my favor. Iconz submitted a response. Will update when final ruling in my favor is complete. And will offer complete details and copy of dispute package with all correspondence with Iconz if interested.

I have dealt with Dan myself for several years now actually. I have been on this forum for over 3 years now, and after the first set of wheels I ordered from him, I will never get from anywhere else. I was recommend by other people when I first came on to go to Daniel, and it was a great choice. I have ordered already 4 sets of wheels from him, 2 sets being ICONZ and 2 sets being other companies. I am always pleased with the responses and service Daniel gives, which is why I can say I will always be getting wheels from him for a long time to come.

Congratulations on your good experience with Dan. Purchasing new wheels must be a hobby :-) What I can say is that my experience was great right up until the sale was made....then slightly less responsive.....then when wheels were similar in weight to boat anchors and I complained, honesty and responsiveness disappeared all together. Luckily I had archives of all correspondence so was able to put together a detailed credit card dispute package. Otherwise I would have been stuck with an inferior product, one that was not as promised.

Nice 4 sets

I ordered from Dan too, and he's a great guy.I got ICONZ as well, and maybe one day I can save up enough money to be able to get 4 sets. I might need a better job. LMAO.

Dan may be a great guy. I don't know him. But what I do know is if u buy 4 sets at the same time you'd better have a crane handy. You'll need it. I think it they warped my floor. LMAO

I guess you really dont read creasy, I never said I ordered 4 sets at one time. Why in the world would I buy 4 sets at 1 time? That's insane. I said I ordered 4 sets so far from him, over a 3 year span, and all have been great. Please read before talking. thanks.

Touchy touchy. If I didn't know better I'd think u had a vested interest in ICONZ. I took ur advice and reread ur post and I apologize. U probably didn't need a crane....an F-250 would probably suffice. LMAO again

I do not need to waste my time with people like you creasy. No offense but you seem very immature. You seem to be just looking to pick a fight. As I said in posts before, I have ordered several sets of wheels. If you read correctly again, 2 sets of iconz and 2 sets of other wheel lines. All of which have been great.

Take it easy......Just blowing off a little steam. When the dispute process is over I'll share all details of my dealings with Iconz. The amount of aggravation I've had will be readily apparent.

To be honest creasyb001, I can care less about your situation. I have had a great experience with them, not once but twice. I ordered other wheels too from other companies and had a similar great experience. I see also from the posts above and looking through the BMW community, that many felt the same way about the wheels and have been enjoying them. No company is perfect in this world, but the majority of their customers are happy, which I do see, then that is fine in my book.

Well, since we're being honest Bimmerboy87, I couldn't care less about your experience with Iconz. I'll lay it out for you. I will post a through fact based review as soon as the Iconz appeal is rejected....and I will do so to ensure that other BMW consumers, and a number of other forums for that matter, enter into their purchasing decision with all the information at their disposal. Rest assured that I will offer every word of correspondence between Iconz and myself so they can decide for themselves. Unless you're employed by Iconz that shouldn't bother you. As a matter of fact, it shouldn't bother Dan or Iconz either since I'll be sharing facts and only facts. I have unused web site space from my ISP....a perfect place for a web site dedicated to the credit card dispute process...I have an excellent example to share.

Creasyb001, stuff like this actually does bother me, and I have nothing to do with any wheel line. People like you honestly disgust me with trying to put down good companies, that has helped a lot of people. I can totally understand if you went against a company that had numerous, majority negative reviews, but they don't. I have had problems with other companies in the past which have NOT been wheel lines, it was other products for my car, but felt I had better things to do, then go on a forum and start trying to bash a company. I just dealt with card companies and the parties involved. Your also thinking about a website? You need to get out man and get a life LMAO. Your the type of customer, businesses do not want to take, and that is the honest truth. I own a business myself, and the way you talk with your responses and actions, if you were ever interested in something I was selling, I would totally tell you to take a hike. I am doing this for your own good, because you might be interested in some other vendors product that they are selling here, and if they see the way you talk, they might turn you away. I actually have seen other vendors (which I wont name) on this site turn down customers due to their actions, so it isn't something that hasn't been done. I think your looking for some attention, did your mother not give you enough as a child? LMAO.

Bimmerboy87, I'm touched by your concern over my well being. But not to worry, I'm finished modding my M3 and I'm sure if I have $$ to spend I'll be able to convince someone to take it. Although it was difficult to follow your thought process (with the incorrect grammar, runon sentences, and poor sentence structure), you were able to convince me to relook my entire attitude toward Iconz. Let me think about the very basics of the dispute:

Prior to ordering
Me: How much do the wheels weigh?
Sales Rep: around mid-20s
Sales Rep: wanna' buy the extreme lightweight package that reduces weight 3-4 lbs?
Me: Sure
So now I'm thinking the wheels will indeed be light. Below 25 lbs seems reasonable given the above.

Delivery
Wheels weighed approximately 30 lbs on my home scale. Dan asserts that there must be something wrong with my scales, sends a pic of another wheel that he says weighs 26-27 lbs and tries to convince my it was impossible for my wheels to weigh more. At one point Dan says that he sells the best brands and that "these (Iconz) have been the lightest of them all" The next day, took wheels to specialty shop (BMW/Porsche specialists) and had wheels weighed. Shop provided signed letter on letterhead indicating weights as 29, 29, 30, and 31 lbs. Shop also provided a letter detailing the effect of heavy wheels on performance and a general overview of wheel weights of quality wheels.

Provided wheel weight letter to Dan. He then says that he gave me the wheel weights before knowing it was an M3....this is ludicrous....met him on M3 forum and yahoo messages clearly show this to be false. All I can think is that he thought I wouldn't have kept an archive of all correspondence.

Eventually, over the next few weeks correspondence from Dan/Iconz evolved to assertions that 30 lbs is not heavy for 2-pc forged wheel and at one point he says that the barrels are cast, not forged. After a couple of weeks of no progress, just delays (we're evaluating, reviewing, etc) I filed a credit card dispute.

Well, bimmerboy87, after reconsidering the facts, I conclude that I wasn't mistaken after all. But maybe I can save another customer the same hassle.

By the way, not to worry about having too much time on my hands. I'm quite busy. Luckily it only takes an hour at most to post PDF files of the dispute package on a web site.

creasyb001,

I see you said you ordered the lightweight package, did you get the complete package or just part of it? I have ordered the complete package that takes out metal from the back pad and also uses titanium bolts. I also ordered 3 piece wheels because anyone who knows anything about wheels, understands that a 3 piece wheel is lighter than a 2 piece wheel. Maybe you should have been a little more educated on the product you were buying instead of putting down a company. You received what you paid for, if you wanted champagne you shouldn't have ordered beer. You just skimped and then blamed it on the company. You can't have your cake and eat it too...

"an educated connsumer is the best customer" ever heard of this saying?

Also, by the way I was doing a search and came across this picture. This iconz wheel is 20'' 3PC and you ordered 19''. Here is a pure example for you.

Bimmerboy87, I never claimed to be a wheel expert. But I doclaim that I ordered 2-piece forged wheels that the Iconz sales rep stated would weight in the mid-20s before he sold me the "extreme lightweight package". I didn't get the titanium fasteners....what I got was several holes drilled from the inside flange. By the way, that in itself caused much amusement at the shop that weighed the wheels. I guess something is to be said for the entertainment value alone.* Anyway, what I received was two 29 lb paperweights, a 30 lb paperweight and a 31 lb paperweight.

As far as the picture goes, that's the exact same pic that Dan showed me....interesting. But as you know, that picture means exactly squat. If you'd like, I can photoshop it and make it weigh 12 lbs. Or better yet, if I send you a pic of my wheels can you make them weigh less. That would really help!

By the way, are you sure you aren't affiliated with Iconz? Your post looks really familiar to the tact used by the Iconz sales rep....you know, changing the discussion to wheel construction, 2-piece vs 3-piece, etc instead of the core issue at hand......the merchandise received was not as promised.

By the way, I thought you didn't need to waste time on this (ref post #12)????

creasyb001,

Everything you just wrote, proves to me you really are not an educated wheel consumer, enough said! Your previous posts just shows that not only do you not know anything about wheels, but the fact that you don't know anything about wheels, why would you even bother with weights? Someone who is truly concerned about weights, would definitely know what they are buying. Everything that you are saying is contradicting yourself. Someone who is interested in weights, would go for a monoblock wheel, or a 3PC wheel, with titanium fasteners and metal taken out of the backpad. What you received is no one's fault other than your own. Like I said before, you got what you ordered. By the way, picture, photoshopped? LMAO. Not a chance, buddy. I owned some ICONZ wheels, I know what they weigh. That picture is dead on. Unlike you, I am an educated consumer. Any more strokes of genius? HAHA!

Like I said, I'm not a wheel manufacturing expert. Likewise, when I bought my car I wasn't an expert on auto-mechanics...I leave that to the technicians. However, I do know the importance of wheel weight on performance; hence my question on the weight of the wheels before I paid for them. Apparently, Iconz is either dishonest or not knowledgeable on the specifications of their product. Either way, it doesn't bode well for the company.

By the way, the wheels I now have on my car are 2-piece forged wheels that weigh as follows:
19x10: 23.9 lbs
19x9.5 (wider than the 19x9 Iconz): 22.8 lbs

Hold on a sec...gotta go get my computer science degree before I stop by Best Buy and purchase a computer. LMAO
