KW Sleeve over rumbling sound?
Ever since I purchased my KW sleeve over kit, Ive heard what I would call a "rumbling" like sound from the rear (I think its the rear).
Im curious to know if this is normal? I don't often have my radio off but when I do, its nice to NOT hear it. Has anyone else experienced this rumbling sound?

Rumbling if your definition is the same as mine wouldn't be component related. It'll be due to the tires/road conditions. Keep in mind that you will get slightly more feed back with the new components. If it were the suspension you'll likely hear clanking or rattles.

Did you install the kit yourself? Take it to a reputable indy shop to diagnose the problem. I believe EAS is in your neck of woods.

I had my professionally installed and corner-balanced. Mine are quiet! I'm curious as to why yours is making noise.

+1.
Mine is quiet also and I DIY it. Might want to remove your front wheel to see if its rubbing against the spring perch. If that checks out go to the back and check to make sure that bump stop cap isn't loose and Intacted with the bump stop. Lastly, I see you might have an audio system, it can be possible for the audio system making a feedback noise. Never know! |

Hi Guys,
Thank you all so much for the suggestions! I would quote each of you but can't on my iPhone. I'm pretty sure the sound is from the rear. I raised it up 1/4" yesterday and noticed no rubbing up front or in back. The dust covers still have the bumpstops in them too. The only thing I can think it might be Is the rear strut bolts. I remember the driver side being a PITA to get all the way to its stopping point. But... I've already loosened and retightened it to the stopping point. Maybe its time to go see Tom and the guys at EAS. Thanks again for the suggestions guys! It was helpful. PS: I do have a trunk sub and I will check to see if its floating or humming. I doubt it, but like one of you said... You never know! I'll pull the fuse from it and see. Good idea! -D

Yes, I had a small wrench on the top of the shaft and a bigger one turning the bottom. But it wasn't easy.

Yeah and cool! Just making sure you got that tighten down but you would 100% know if it isn't. It would be making a loud clanking noise when the shock compresses.

Ive heard front struts clank on my old STI before. That sound is pretty loud. This sound is like a rubber mallet faintly hitting something solid while I drive down the road. But because its coming from the trunk, it almost sounds like a rumbling like thumping sound. I'll pull my trunk carpet out and check it out asap. Thanks again!

Well, shock towers where not loose. However, I did find this post which appears to prove I am hearing a rumbling...
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...5&postcount=22 So while my car looks good, Im not down with with the added in cabin noise. I would rather have an occasional coil over clunk than listen to a constant rumbling in my trunk area when my radio is down. So pissed I even bought these things now. I should have just left my car alone. Ugh. While the cars stance looks good, it rides like shit. Its not bouncy or too stiff, but if you hit a decent dip in the road, the car just unsettles to the point of it being dangerous IMO. I have a minor dip in the road near my house Ive hit in my stock suspension many times and it just absorbed it and keep the wheels planted. With the KW's it just sky rockets the car into the air and feels unsafe all together. Now that Ive ruled install error out, I don't recommend these. IF you are hell bent on a drop for looks, just get B&G springs. Otherwise leave it stock or get real coil overs. KW sleeve over for sale real soon.

the only setup that can work without too many negative side effects is dinan, and even that will have some negative effects. dinan is better because it doesn't lower much and can somewhat compensate for the lost travel from shorter springs by use of shorter bump stops and the shaved strut mounts. |

I'm glad there are still people like you that doesn't cover up. A lot of forum members tend to back up products they bought, but instead you tell us differently. I'll stay clear from this when I'm ready to lower the car. There's no cheap alternative. |

I'm just over this. I remember when I bought my M3, I thought FINALLY a car that doesn't have 6" wheel gap! And now the two fingers up front bugs me? Well, not anymore. I'm fine with it after going thru this. Quote:
For the most part they rolled down the road smooth enough, but the second you hit a dip or something at high speed, watch out! You will rebound off the bump stops and fly through the air real quick. Like I mentioned before Ive hit this dip on a road near my house countless times and stock suspension just felt planted. With the KW's and a mild drop (half way down) I would sling shot out of my seat and the car felt dangerous to me. Maybe Im just too old for this shit now. Lowering to me, felt like a downgrade. However, Looks wise it will be hard to beat. Oh well. Stock for me.
