Never have driven an M6 so can't comment on that.
I was, however, deciding between the M3 and C63 as well. I think if you're never going to track the car, and if you like the exterior and interior look of the C63, that's the one to get. Like someone else said, the torque on that car is unreal, especially at low revs. The Merc is viciously fast at low speeds, sounds amazing, and has much better seats IMHO. Nonetheless, I ended up going for the M3 for a couple of reasons. 1. Included 4 year service 2. I intend to go the track at least once a month, and handling wise, it seemed like M3 > C63. 3. I liked that the M3 had a duel personality as sometimes I'm just looking for a nice, relaxing ride. The M3 can be a semi-normal car if you're just tooling around town, or it can be a fierce rocket at the press of a button. The C63, on the other hand, seemed like it was a 24/7 hot rod (for better or worse). 4. BMW's interior and exterior looked better to me (though merc's nav system seemed to have better functionally). 5. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, something about the way the M3 was engineered appealed to me. Whether it be the high revving engine, the tricked out differential, or the great handling characteristics, I "fell in love" with the it because it was such a complete package. While certainly a bit of an exaggeration, I couldn't shake the image of the C63 as merely a nice car with a ridiculously big engine (the same image I have of some of those Dodge SRT cars). That just didn't seem worth the money. Mind you, this all could be me falling for good marketing... Anyway, good luck with your decision. As the people on Fifth Gear said, if you're just looking for a great car to drive around town in, and assuming you like the way it looks, you'll probably be better off with the C63. |

My tuppence worth:
M3. Everything going for it. 9 months in and only the less than acceptable tyre wear rates let it down. Had an M5 with SMG and it SUCKS BIG TIME, cool engine and acceleration, truly apalling gearbox. Same goes for the M6. You might not get the full crappy effect on a test drive but owning one is a curse IMO. Was delighted to be rid of it ! C63. Cool engine, cool interior, rubbish traction and traction control - enough to spoil it in anything other than town driving - it would do your head completely in after a month, seriously naff chrome / spoilers etc. Ken

M6 if I found one for a good deal. If you don't like it, you could always sell it and get a brand new M3 or an C63. It's not easy to find a perfect used car, so I would snatch that up first. Good luck.

m3 or m6..
m6 is coming out with a face lift.. and a different engine.. id say get the m3 and start fresh.. 4 years of warranty.. the m6 wont have much warranty left.. stay away from the c63 though, handling was so bad that i got sick of the test drive.

There's only one good Mercedes and that's a Black Series Mercedes.
Now if I had the choice of a M3 or CLK Black Series I would go with the Merc if the money was not part of the equation but with such a large price difference between the two it then comes back to the M3. The bang for buck is a pretty good draw card for the M3, its also new and has current technology. M6 is getting old and the C63 has a oversized motor for which the body cannot handle. And I wonder how many people would want a secondhand c63 knowing the s**t has been knocked out of it.

I wouldn't buy ANY expensive car right now. Cash is king. Psychology is changing and there is going to be a backlash against conspicuous consumption. The price of luxury items should come down quickly. Keeping your cash gives you the power to take advantage of a rapidly changing financial situation....

Try telling that to a Zambian, there got truck loads of cash, $20,000,000 for a loaf of bread.

M6. Easy to smooth out SMG with resetting it using the paddles while in neutral. And you can smooth out the shifting by simply lifting your foot. You may even become master the gearbox to a point where it becomes instinct to lift your foot for each shift. Just use manual mode all the time.

You might be able to fool these other members by saying you have a C63 but I am not buying it for a second. If you were a C63 owner you wouldn't be trashing the car here on the forums. The C63 is available with a LSD. My C63 gets better gas mileage than my M3 and I drive my C63 harder than I do my M3 most of the time since its more fun at lower speeds. Handling is very close to that of my M3 especially with the performance package. The C63 is on a completely new chassis as compared to the outgoing CLK. Having said that I would still love to see what a CLK63 Black series could do. |

Tell us more about what you want from the car. If you just want t fast car to casually drive on the street the C63 is a great package. I would highly recommend the Pref Package as it includes an LSD which transforms the car. The M3 is more of a drivers car and has less torque. I really like the M6 but the SMG transmission is slightly annoying if you are doing lots of stop and go commuting as the 1st-2nd shift is not that smooth when you are driving gently.
