Bomiz Valvetronic Exhaust - First Edition [Install + Review]

Alright guys, so it's been about a week now since I have installed the newly released Bomiz Valvetronic Exhaust for the E9X M3. As most of you know, a group buy was held several months ago for the first production run of this cat back system.
I have had MANY exhaust setups as covered in my Corsa Exhaust thread:
https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1497107
and honestly I had zero intention of moving away from my Corsa + Test Pipe combo, unless it was to just add a HFC X-Pipe.
When the initial interest thread was posted by Bomiz, I was intrigued. Would they be able to provide a quality, low-cost, valvetronic option for this platform? Something that hadn't really been done before... I hoped so, but also was very happy with my current setup. But when the time came and this idea became a reality, I decided why not bite the bullet, install it, and worst case scenario I can just sell it if I don't like it and continue with my Corsa setup.

Nonetheless, I picked up my system from Bomiz's partner shop Precision Dynamics in Costa Mesa, CA. Local to me which made things very easy.

I opted for the polished mufflers (cheapest option), and the machined tips for my system. I anticipated that I would want to paint the actual cans black for a stealthy setup anyways, so figured that was the best route.

On to some pictures:

This thing was wrapped very well, plastic wrapped, AND bubble wrapped on top of that. Took me like 15 minutes to unwrap every piece.

All unwrapped! I actually put the Bomiz sticker on the box since I felt it looked better

"Mock-Up"

Inside the little black box was the valve control module, all necessary wiring, and two wireless remotes.

Painted the Cans Black as mentioned. Turned out great and I have had great experiences with the Rustoleum High Temp "BBQ" Paint. Opted for the Semi-Gloss this time as opposed to the flat black that I used on my Corsa. Looks MUCH better!

In regards to installation, it was fairly simple and straightforward. Initially I had tapped the incorrect power wire and wasn't getting enough voltage, but I figured that out once Bomiz sent over the install instructions. I ran the wire from the battery, under the trunk floor cover, and drilled a small hole thru the front side of the plastic trunk floor (under the foam for the air pump). I then installed a small grommet to keep out any potential debris/water as well as keep the wires from rubbing the edges.

View from under the car of the hole:

Toughest part for those not mechanically (or electronically) inclined would probably be removing the "cigarette adapter" power outlet and splicing the power and ground with the supplied wiretaps:

.

.

And here's the "Installed" Photos:

.

.

Now on to my first impressions:

So my expectations were for an exhaust that sounded just like my Corsa setup, maybe slightly louder when opened, but with the ability to be silenced on command.

The Bomiz system DEFINITELY met the demand of being silenced on command..
Even with Test Pipes, the car sounds like stock, which is crazy to me. Very nice, especially given how strict California is becoming with aftermarket exhausts and modded cars in general. Love this aspect of the exhaust!

In regards to the sound while open, it is much louder than anticipated! lol. Which is a blessing and a curse I suppose. I did want my Corsa to be slightly louder, however the overall tone of the Bomiz system is much deeper and boomy. I find myself not opening the system often (only for a nice freeway on ramp pull, and for impressing my friends!) as I don't want to be "that guy" with the annoying loud car driving around on the street, while with my Corsa, the car felt crisp and refined.

*I know I know, this thread is useless without sound clips*
I will get a good video soon, I am just slammed at work for the next couple weeks and don't have much time. But I promise I will have a legit video soon enough.

Overall, I am happy with the exhaust, the ability to go from silent to screaming with the push of a button is amazing in Commiefornia. The ONLY gripe I have with the exhaust is that it's not as high pitched as I would have liked it to be, but sound is always subjective, and I really think that the majority of people will love the deep, rumbly, loud V8 sound that the system releases when opened! Also, aesthetically, the Bomiz looks incredible when compared to the Corsa, which REQUIRES aftermarket tips and the mufflers be painted black to look at all good. So i'm going back and forth as to which I want to keep.. Going to give it some time to really get used to the Bomiz before making a decision!

I will update this thread as soon as I have the video completed!

Great review. I too have installed mine but my car is off the road until April so I have yet to hear the system other than idle and slight rev. I am catless and the rev with the valves open was LOUD and sounded good.

Great write up, and thank you very much for the review.

The issue I see now is that you loved your Corsa sound paired with test pipes. Now with this exhaust you may have to search again for your perfect matching x pipe.

Nice write up! Anxiously awaiting to hear the the videos with test pipes. I'm contemplating switching out my SS Race + TP combo for this as sometimes I want more volume, but not all the time...

nice review.

I sold my kit to someone locally. he installed it this weekend and while I was impressed by the quality of the kit, the sound was just too much for me. I probably would be valves closed more than 80% of the time. I'm glad I stuck with my akrapovic.

Guess we shall see, I'm liking the quietness with closed valves currently. So we'll see!

Definitely going to snag an xpipe once those are produced!

Sounds like the perfect option for you! Will get the clips up as soon as time permits!

Yea i get it, it's certainly not as "refined" as the Corsa, but as mentioned, i think I'm in the minority of people who are extremely picky with their exhaust sound

I wonder if you'd like the muffler more if you had stock mid-pipes, resonator, cats, etc. I enjoy the muffler with stock bits - valves open is not as loud as I expected, but it is a very noticeable difference vs. closed. I posted a video in the group buy thread, but it's just idle revving.

Yea, i am considering resonated test Pipes to see if that changes the tone of the open valves

Cool! M3ANMACHINE let me know if you ever want to compare notes / hear it with stock x-pipe. We both live in the SF Bay Area, so it should be easy.

Subbing for sound clips and also future dibs on a Corsa exhaust on closeout price for sale. I'll need to weld on some E92 length tips so hoping for a good price, picked up of course.

In for sound clips. I have a Corsa with BW resonated X Pipe. I have yet to hear something so versatile, exotic sounding, quiet and loud when you need it, as this setup.

No such thing as closeout price on Corsa
E92 length tips already installed, nice try tho!
Lol!

Thanks for posting this, as other have said I'm looking forward to the videos since Corsa was my first choice before this exhaust was released. I like the way the bomiz sounds with my stock xpipe but I'm afraid of making it too loud with an aftermarket xpipe. How is the sound in upper rpms with the test pipes? Mine seems to be relatively loud up to around 4k and then seems like its a bit quiet with valves open.

With TP's, it screams at the high RPM's!
