I just picked up an E92 M3 and it came with Pzeros in OEM sizing. The tires look good and fat on the ZCP wheels and there is a lot of tread left. I don't have any experience with these tires except what I've read on Tire Rack but I have a lot of experience with PSS and I'm thinking about taking the pzeros off to put PS4S on in 255/275.

Anyone have much experience with the pzero? Should I ditch them right away or give them a go? Driving climate will be 50s-90s F and 50/50 wet/dry roads.

They are not bad tires so I would burn them or get PS4S and sell Pzero's..

The PS4S absolutely demolished the P-Zero in the Tire Rack tests. I would run the P-Zeros down and then replace them with PS4S -- no use throwing out perfectly good tires.

If you want to justify a quicker purchase, take the car to the track and wear the Pirellis down faster. ;-)

I'm in the same situation as you OP. New set of P Zero's... The PS4S are about the same price new, but better in almost every respect. The P Zero's are supposed to be closest in dry handling, but tread wear is supposed to be bad. I will likely burn them down this year and start off next year with Michelin.

Good luck trying to sell if that's the route you take. I have been trying to do so for a while now. They are OEM on a lot of cars and nobody seems to want them, even deeply discounted...

Yeah I would sell them, probably try to get $500 for the set but might be difficult. Driving them around today in 50s F with wet roads and they definitely did not feel that great although comfort was fair. I'll have to give them some warmer temps before I really decide.

The pavement is still cold -- that's the problem.

I have the PS4S on my m3 now and they are awesome. Not a fan of Pirelli tires, overpriced and cannot match Michelin.

PS4S have tons of grip but I would not take off perfectly fine tires. Pirellis are still great tires.

Upon closer inspection these may be kind of old tires. The car was only driven about 10k miles over the last 3 years. There are cracks running along the water channels. No signs of damage but they look a bit aged. I'm going to try and figure out the manufacturer date.

I think I'm mostly looking for excuses to get fancy new tires. I agree it probably isn't necessary but I'm a tire whore.

I hated the pzeros I had. Extremely hard, no grip to the point Id get good amount of tire spin in 3rd. Worse "performance" tire Ive had. Check out the firehawks. Lots of E46 guys love them and a friend with a P-car has them and they are great tires for the money, if you're trying to find value with performance.

Production date is typically printed on the sidewall in the form MMYY.

Finding a local buyer is the best bet to move the Pzeros. When I bought my M3 back in 2012, it came with nearly new tires I didn't want (CPO car, 16k miles), so I posted an ad in our local sports car club forum (track, autox, rallyx club) and had them sold in a day. In your case with the age of the tires and clear thermo-oxidative aging showing (car probably sat outside all day at the least), I'd price them to move and be done with them depending on measured tread depth. Maybe $350/set local pickup with 6/32s or more. If 5/32s or less, forget selling them.

Couple that sale with waiting until Discount Tire has their $100/set of four specials (usually 4-5 times/year), and the sting won't be too bad. Michelin/DT often also have the $70/set rebate running too. Hence 350+100+70 helps a good bit getting into a new set of tires.

This morning with wet road and temp 44F I had traction issues with a slow start from a stop turning left. I then thought hmm I should check braking. So I hit the brakes at 30 mph and slid about 10 feet. Yes the surface conditions are not great but I'm losing traction everywhere so these things are going bye bye.

The Pirelli PZero all season plus tire is supposed to be great in comparison to Michelin AS3+ so seems unfortunate that the summer version is a poor performer.

I've been running the PS4S for a few weeks here in the PDX area. Tremendous grip, even when it gets cold and wet.

My M3 came with brand new P zeros as PSS were on backorder at the time. When I took delivery I was a little disappointed, but the tires have been great for me and my driving habits. I admittedly don't track the car, nor to do drive that aggressively, so for me they've been good tires, even here in rainy Seattle. I like the profile of them as well.

I had PSS on my ZHP and didn't like the rear profile - too chubby, but that was also a different size tire than on the E9x M3.

Reading through all the posts in this thread, sounds like you won't be happy with the Pirellis so might as well ditch them!

New PS4S tires are on my ZCP wheels in 255/275 and they are a huge improvement. Only about 75 miles scrubbed in but in same conditions 45F raining I have at least 50% more traction, comfort is way better, less road noise. All in all glad I spent the money.

Any summer tire is going to perform poorly on cold pavement like that, even a PSS or PS4S.

I've driven many summer tires in these conditions and my expectations are always low. The PZeros I removed from my car were exceptionally bad, even in the one dry day I had them. I can't say if that is due to age and wear, which seemed acceptable, or the tire itself. The new tires are an enormous improvement though.

The new P Zero PZ4 is not bad compared to the PS4S if you're not tracking the car. They developed the PZ4 to beat the PSS... but then Michelin introduced the PS4S which again upped the bar.

Older generation P Zeros are not as good and the BMW OEM P Zeros just suck.
