OEM Exhaust Mod - Any local shops (Bellevue - Kirkland)?
Hey guys - Are there any other local shops around the Seattle metropolitan area (preferably the east side - Bellevue/Kirkland) that can do the exhaust mod? I did a search but all I found was an older thread that recommends "Bucky's" in Auburn. I know it's not a Ferrari or anything, but I don't want to go to just any shop with my M3.
Thanks! |

What are you trying to do? Pull out the insulation inside the muffler?

Had this done at Airport Welding in Snohomish. They did a pretty good job for their first time doing the mod, but they charged me a pretty penny ($400 IIRC). They said it would be cheaper to do future M3's, so buy me a beer if anyone ends up using them

From another thread I guess there are 3 versions. Going to try and get version 1 done.
Version 1 : replace the 2 big perforated pipes with straight pipe... EXCELLENT SOUND Version 2 : replace the 4 perforated pipes with straight pipe... LOUD NOT SO EXCELLENT A BIT RASPY... Version 3 : well make the oem exhaust straight pipe.... INSANELY LOUD... (ITS FAWKING LOUD) Taken from http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=671708 |

Oh lawdy that sounds great. How long did it take him? This one is definitely on my list, and for <$300?? Awesome.
Did you have him open the top to keep the mod hidden? Did they do a clean job? |

No, I did it the traditional way (bottom). I suppose you could ask him to cut from the top but I didn't know better. If he does cut from the bottom, I suggest bringing a can of high temp paint and asking him to apply it to whole muffler. Anyhow, it took about 3 hours. Also, if he asks if you want the fiberglass hairball put back in, say yes. Otherwise, I heard the sound will be way too raspy (Per CallMeWonder). In terms of cabin sound, it's a little noticeable. From the outside the sound is border line calm dancing on the line of angry v8 .
