I think you're correct. Look at the last 2 digits on the license plate in this pic and look at the plate on the pic from the accident. Also, in this post he says how he's in FL. Very sad.

So his name was Daniel Portela (29 years old) and he was wearing his seat belt.
Portela, who was wearing his seat belt, could not "negotiate" a curve and lost control, said Sgt. John Churchill of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. The car turned clockwise, made it on to the median and continued sideways until it stuck a tree, which split the car in half, the report stated. RIP bro. Life cut way too short. |

It is even more upsetting to learn that this was a member of our community, Ironcally he posted interest in going to a track and if he was spending the winter in Weat Palm he was close to Palm Beach International (Moroso) and not that far from Sebring.
As foolish as he might have been it is horrible that a young life was lost. CA

They also said that alcohol and speed played a part. I guess we're all guilty of pushing the envelope at various times but I think it will be a long time before I do so again. So sad.

I could almost excuse him if he was just "having some fun" and "speeding".
But IF alcohol was involved...he is obviously not a very smart individual. I personally NEVER drink & drive, its simply not worth the risk in my opinion. And you could sure bet, that if I ever did drink & drive, I would be driving like a 75 year old grandma. Nonetheless, it is very sad, but I don't feel bad for him as much as I feel horrible for his friends and family. RIP!

This is so sad to read. My condolences to his family and friends, this is a terrible way for them to lose a loved one.
On another note, let this serve as a reminder in this community that as safe as our cars may be, they are not invincible. It just goes to show how important it is to be a responsible member of our individual communities. Enjoy your cars, but be safe out there, folks. |

It just guts me to see a senseless loss like this.
For you folks that are now worried about driving home... it's not complicated... drive within your limits. If you have a full-prep racecar with a cage and years of experience, yeah, push the edge on the track, but those years of experience will tell you where the consequences of a mistake or failure are benign and where they are fatal. For most folks, leave yourself plenty of margin for the unexpected... a blowout, a suspension failure, someone making an unexpected U-turn... leave yourself an out. If you've been drinking or are dead tired, or distracted by stress... maybe you don't really need to drive right now... maybe you should stop, take a nap, hail a cab, or get a hotel. Life can wait. RIP Lucifer_M3, I wish I'd known you. |
