WTB: Extremely High Mileage M3, Well Maintained (unique ask)

Hey everyone. This is a bit of a strange ask, but bear with me and apologies with the long thread starter.

My family has owned BMWs since 1983 ('83 325, '92 525, '07 328). I have always had a soft spot for them and would love to own a performance version in the next 3-6 months. I assume this search will take that long, hence the lengthy intro and beginning of the search now.

I love high mileage cars and think they have a ton of character. I want to buy a high-mileage, BMW performance car. Initially, my mind went immediately to the E92. It's my favorite M3 by a considerable margin. I love V8s, have owned a V8 sports car before (Aston Martin V8V), and want one in my life again.

The ask is this: E90/92 with 125,000-150,000ish miles on it for $15,000-20,000 with a full service history (doesn't have to be dealer). That's it. I'd love for the rod bearings to have been done, but that's not a deal breaker. I imagine a car with this high of mileage would likely have them done, but I've seen examples on many forums and sites (cargurus, auto trader, etc) that haven't at around 110-135k miles. That's it. Everything else is negotiable and not a must have.

No preference on transmission, hoping for decent aesthetic condition, no seat tears, blah blah blah. Normal stuff. But honestly, that stuff is fixable and would make for a better story. More on that at the bottom.

I'm a realist and if a V8 isn't available, I'm open to suggestion. Love the E46 and E30 platforms. And also love project swaps as well (see links below for ideas).

Lastly, and I left this until last on purpose, I'd like to utilize the car not only as a fun sports daily, but also to make videos with and write articles about. I own and operate a smaller YT channel that I won't mention. If you guys can figure it out on your own, great. I don't want to self promote, but wanted to give that nugget of information so the dialogue can be open and you know all the reasons for purchase.

TL;DR - looking for high mileage, cheapish, E9x/E46/Project car swap to daily/make videos about. Starting my search here because I know this community to be one of the best out there and E9x is preferred. Not asking for you to search for me, still doing that, but links are suggestions for what I'm looking for. I'm in northern NJ, but willing to shop nationally.

I admire your hunt and mostly the idea of a car with a story, makes it MUCH more fun to talk about, instead of "yeah I just picked it up from the lot with only 3 miles on it, but those 3 miles are from the dealership"

I driven several of these E9X platforms from between 30Kmiles up to 100K miles and how the car looks and feels has more to do with how it was treated and maintained, (yes, that 100K mile car felt incredible), rather than the mileage, so don't skip the test drive! Good luck, i'm sure you'll find one soon that gets a second or even 5th life !

Thank you for the kind words! And completely agree. The story and car’s history is just as fun as the car to me. My V70R was once crushed by a tree and everyone on the Volvo turns said to stay away from it. I didn’t and it’s literally been the best decision I’ve ever made. Love it. 147k miles and 440hp. Amazing car.

Hey there. Not sure if you are still looking, but I have a 2002 E46 M3, jet black on imola red, 6 speed, vanos and subframe have been taken care of. 34X,000km.

It’s in great shape mechanically as it’s my daily driver so I needed it to be reliable. Cosmetically it’s probably a 6/10.

Jerez Black Exterior/Black interior w/carbon fiber trim
All maintenance just completed, oil change, brakes,etc. and rod bearings done at 95k miles by BMW dealer.
Just passed NJ re-inspection yesterday. No accidents ever. Tasteful mods.
All service records and maintenance records on hand kept in a single folder.
