Going off of hearsay from numerous members on other forums. A large majority of most owners I've had interactions with agree that a springs-only approach should only be used short term if at all. 10k may be low, but I certainly won't be finding out. Apparently the BMW shocks area weak point - perhaps this will not be so with the e92.

I've had a few bmw's which lasted over 10k miles with just aftermarket springs... I think its more about how you drive them and the roads you drive on that will wear them out a bit faster. I saw typically about 35-40k miles with the stock shock...

I am also waiting for a company to come out with a fully adjustable coilover that will also work with EDC. I would buy it in a second!!!

I'm wondering what the cost differential will be. My TC Kline Double Adjustables ran me about $2,500 including camber plates. With EDC, performance coilovers could get in the $3,000-3,500 range real quickly I would imagine.

The coilovers they had for the e46 had the option for an EDFC control unit. I believe it was about $1,200-1,500 more than the standard system. They certainly will get the job done. However in my experience, Tein isn't as well respected in the M3 community by drivers who want exceptional performance or vendors who deal primarily with customers who track the shit out of their cars.

For me, the decision will come down to which manufacturers actaully release EDC-friendly full coilover setups. I'm crossing my fingers that TC Kline releases a kit that will satisfy this.

I'm right there next to you. Even if the cost is up there, it would be one hell of a system and worth it to me!

Klines stuff is just reworked Koni, he does not make his own shocks and struts persay. He does not have the RD facility to make EDC shocks for such a small market.

I would wait for HR or Bilstein to come out with something.

I have heard of a backlog on Tire Rack but wanted to know if anyone has had any luck with other vendors...

P.S. Can anyone confirm if Hartge springs are made by H&R?

This is historically:

- 1993 318i Sedan 57,000 miles
- 1996 Z3 18,000 miles
- 1998 323i Convertible 19,000 miles
- 2002 330i 19,000 miles
- 2004 M3 37,000 miles

All of them with Eibach springs installed while keeping OEM shocks within 1000 miles of buying the car. All of them sold with the springs still installed with the original shocks. And each one of them still rode firm after all those miles. All of them I estimate to have left several tens of thousands of miles on that suspension combo before replacing the OEM shocks.

As soon as I get my new M3 I will get some Eibachs for that sucker too.

This "issue" of aftermarket springs killing OEM shocks is one of those "Sasquach" of the Internet: every now and then it comes up as some kind of fact but at the end of the day nobody has seen the mofo in person, much less prove the existence of such a creature.

I'm glad that you brought this thread back Mark. I was just going to try and order these springs today. Hmm, it looks like I'll have to call some vendors tomorrow and see if anybody has them. I'll keep you posted. BTW, did you pick up your car yet??

My friend installed h&R springs on his EDC M6. After 4 months the shocks blew out and he had to buy brand new shocks with no warrnty coverage from BMW.

I would not buy H&R springs for an EDC M3. It is way too aggressive at least for M6.

It is too bad cuz the M3 has SUV like wheel and fender gaps.

Good to hear. Thanks. The drop on the H&R is only .6in Front and 1in Rear, correct? If so, that isn't all that aggressive.

I disagree with you about the M3 fender gaps. You aren't looking at cars that still have the shipping blocks in are you?

Jason's OP says 1" front and 0.6" rear (opposite of what you stated). I agree that the gap is not the worst, but does look much better reduced.

i imagine a 1" and a .6" drop with the stiffest EDC option isnt that bad. i dont think it'll blow in 4 months. maybe if u lower on race and commute in LA every day, maybe

Ideally, BMW would come out with their own lowering springs as part of the performance parts line, but I'm not holding my breath.

just wondering, doesnt shorter springs = different compression which will have the same effect as H&R? even if they're made by BMW?

Yeh I've been all over the M6 forums and everyone says the same thing you said. I would get the dinan springs so if the shocks go out at least it will be covered by the warrantee.

What kind of H&R springs, Sport or Race springs? Two different animals...
