42 yo, first M3. Long story but certain priorities took precedence before buying a $82 k car...I put myself through college, graduate school and medical school, got married, endured 4 years of post-graduate resident training, bought my first house and had 2 kids. I always had SUVs that got us through any weather in the Northeast and could haul around 2 kids and 2 dogs. I could easily buy any car right now.. I test drove the Panamera turbo & GTS, 911 4S, Audi RS5, C63 AMG and several others. After many months of deciding which vehicle to get I chose the M3 convertible. I wanted a 3rd vehicle that could transport the kids, was balls deep fun with the top up or down, had the hardtop option, was a proven sports car with legendary performance and wasn't going to be a third mortgage as I already have one plus major student loans to pay back. I have other vehicles plus a vacation home I'm saving for... IMO, the M3 was the best combination of factors for me at the present time. As my kids get older, expenses and priorities will change and I may find myself with different vehicles for different reasons.

A familiar story

I'm 35 and finished fellowship 3 yr ago (I'm a radiologist) and have been patiently waiting to buy my toy. Marriage, multiple coast to coast moves, house and 2 kids took priority but my family always will.

Gastroenterologist or anesthesiologist? Where do you practice in PA? I did my residency in Hershey.

I didn't realize you were making a list. Nice!

32 years old and happy to be 32. I wouldn't go back to my 20s but that might change in another 8 years. My M3 is a splurge and on the upper limits of my spending but as an enthusiast, it's worth it to me! This is by far my most expensive car I've owned and it's my first BMW although I've always wanted an M3.
