Cost to respray bumper and hood

Hi all,

My hood and bumper are looking rough from paint chips. I tried to touch up some spots and now it looks worse than before! One spot in particular on the hood looks so bad now. I live near EAG so I'm going to take it up there next week. Does anyone have an idea of what a bumper/hood sand and respray should cost?

Hard to say as the labor costs vary depending on where you live.

In Northern California, expect to pay $400/panel for horrible work that will flake off within a year or two. Or at least $1,000/panel for higher end work.

I was quoted just shy of $1300 to do the front and rear bumpers and both side skirts, but that was off the car and three of the parts are brand new with primer. Off the car makes more work for you but also considerably cheaper. Depending on the color you may not be able to do that since they may have to blend in the panels.

Had my front bumper and mirror caps resprayed a couple of years ago (just due to some minor rock chips over the years), I think it was around $1200 total. Mineral white metallic (I believe metallic is a bit more expensive than non-metallic). San Diego area.

Not sure if you're using the touch up paint as a reason for a respray, of if you're really just that unhappy with the job you did touching up. If it's the later, I'd take a look at the following:

It works really well on paint that isn't cured. You have to work at it a fair amount, and you'll want to buff after, but it's really impressive. I took off high spots from touch up paint on my car from the previous owner about 1 year after I had it. I'd guess whatever you did is fresh enough to improve or reverse it using that. I've also used the following to undo some less than great paint touch up:

It's pretty useful for other stuff as well.

There's a bit of an art to getting touch up paint to look okay. It will never look perfect, but if you don't want to respray a bunch of panels, then a lot of time and patience can result in some pretty decent results. Happy to share some tips if you want to give it another go after correcting what you did on the first go 'round.

WagonR - very interesting. Yes I'm just very unhappy with my touch up job. It looks AWFUL. I used the BMW touch up paint and the BMW clear coat over top of my touch up. Will the Amazon product work to remove touch up paint if there is also touch up clear coat over top of it?

Yeah, I really think it will. I used the factory touch up paint and blob remover on my car and was successful. Again, a couple weeks of that touch up paint drying isn't really an issue.

Watch a vid on how to best use touch up paint… involves multiple thin coats, sanding, clearing and sanding and polishing… good results can be achieved..

The blob remover worked awesome! Thank you! It actually got rid of the excess paint and clear coat even though I applied it over 2 weeks ago. It left a little paint in the original scratches so it actually looks better than before I did my awful repair. I'm gonna try applying touch up paint again with the little brushes you recommended. If it looks bad I can always use the blob remover again to remove it. Thanks again!!
