I think you're completely missing the point. I would work for DARPA in a heartbeat. They are responsible for some of the biggest breakthroughs imaginable: the ARPANET - the Internet today was originally a DARPA project.

I respect them and fear them (not really fear at all actually) at the same time. It would be an honor to work for them.

I commend all these companies and the grants that DARPA gives revolutionize industries or creates them.

I only have respect and that was said out of jest.

Sorry for your problem OP and hope the seller comes clean. On another note from what I have gathered from this thread, any would be car thief can see your car on the street think "hey I like this car" then proceed to take down your plate # and then be able to look up your address online? Damn I though access to DMV records was only available to law enforcment or proper authorized individuals. Now thats complete bullshit and a big threat against ones safety..

Yes there are services out there that can do ANYTHING. How do you think most "Factory unlocked phones" get unlocked? It's some guy getting paid $15 at AT&T by his buddies for every phone he unlocks. Society is rife with this. Privacy protection is the new frontier my friends but there has always been away to get what you want.

This is the reason why California and most states have protections in place. To at least mitigate the problem of unauthorized access to private information and provide a remedy if violated. California in its requests for information from the DMW has the follow provision:

"California law (CVC Section 1808.21) provides that residence addresses are confidential and not to be released except to (1) the subject of record; or (2) when a state or federal statute is provided by code name and section number which REQUIRES DMV to release residence addresses. Out-of-state lien sales must cite their state statute by code name and section number AND attach a copy of the statute to their request. For further information, contact the DMV Information Release Unit at (916) 657-8098."

IN ADDITION:

You have to be the right person to request it:

1) Attorney
2) Requesting your OWN
3) Lien Sale [might bare some fruit]
4) A dealer

Quoted directly from the form mentioned above

Oh boy! That was eloquently put.

Well diplomacy I think has now gone down the tubes. Eh, my last statement is probably an exaggeration.

You seem pretty nonchalant about spending to have to cut into your modding budget for your gal's purse...just saying.

Chalk it up as a loss. You probably only spent several hundred on this wheel. A lesson learned. But sorry to hear you got scammed. Totally unchill.
Its principles. I could give a shit about the whole thing. But codes of conduct must apply. And im not buying any yacht yet! Was just a plan. I dont care how much I make I still like to save money but obviously this was a big mistake. So please. Dont kick the man while hes down. I could really care less but when you feel wronged it lingers.
