I just changed the spark plugs on my m3 and noticed that the ignition coil connector for cylinder #2 wouldn't click into place when I attached it to the ignition coil.

I pushed the connector in as much as I could and reinstalled the plastic ignition coil cover, started my car and the car went into limp mode. connected my scanner and pulled a code regarding cylinder #2. Went back to the engine and saw that the coil connector for #2 had become loose..it must have loosened as i was reinstalling the cover in that tight space

pushed the connector back in and did not reinstall the plastic cover in this time, started the car and no limp mode this time. I'm worried that the connector will loosen as I'm driving the car on the road..

anyone else encounter this issue?

it did not unfortunately. car went into limp mode upon initial start up after the spark plug job and that was definitely a result of me wiggling the long plastic valve cover thing into place, it must have made contact with the connector.

I'm probably going to secure it with some electrical tape or a zip tie for the time being due to the fact that the engine is running perfectly now despite the connector not clicking into place. Car is a 09 with 118k miles so im not too surprised..

the only solution for this issue that I am aware of is replacing a complete wiring harness which happens to have the ignition coil connectors on it
part# 12517839272
almost $1000 for the part

yeah im assuming the tab probably or some plastic rubbed off. i have seen the connectors for sale on ebay individually. not sure if you can just splice the connector but might not hurt to look into it. unless its the coil then youd just have to replace that

Will test the coil this weekend and decide if il just leave the zip ties on the connector or go that route. Thank you!!
