I'm on my fourth E9x. I plan to keep this one forever. I wasn't planning on coming back to the E9x platform this last time around, at least not so soon, but then a 2011.75 e90 6mt LMB with under 30k miles and I had to jump on it. This time around I'm missing it with all my favorite mods of all my other cars. With the eventuri plenum and intake, test pipes, and corsa exhaust, this is one of the best sounding cars on the road today.

The days of N/A manual sedans is basically dead. My other car is a 991.1 4S 7MT and both are great cars in their own right.

A race derived V8 engine, 8000+ RPM, hydraulic steering, and a sensational engine note in a sport sedan is a dying breed.

I also own a Lotus Evora 400 which is a great car in a different way.

I think on my short list of a future car I'd like to own is; a 2018 GT3, GT3RS, Ferrari 458, or Scuderia to compliment my M3.

This keeps happening to me. I've posted my car for sale twice. It's currently for sale for a lot of money. I think I'll take the ad down... again. I just love driving this thing.

I've always wondered the same thing.

I only have a 2 car garage, but I have an FJ Cruiser for off-roading, a Tesla Model 3 for the commute, a VW CC that my wife can abuse, and my M3... all the cars are paid off except the Tesla.

I do want to get a Porsche... likely a 4.0 718 GTS but that means 5 cars when really I should get down to 2 cars.

But getting into the e90 manual M3 on the weekends feels so good... I don't think I'd ever get rid of it.

Maybe post pandemic I could get down to 3 cars (M3, 718 GTS, and Rivian/ Hummer EV/ Cyberteuck) and alternate between cycling/ train to work and using the Rivian on other days to get to work. Then on other days my wife can use the Rivian.

I’ve done this type of “math” before. It’s called delusion

I’m also tempted by a Cayman of some sort, the new GTS or the Gt4 Being so good. But honestly I can’t let go of the M3, and feel that I’d be ever regretting getting rid of it in a few years.

The only car that really interests me besides my M3 is the Ferrari 488 Pista but that is in a different league. I don't think there is any other NA car out that entices me like my S65. The 488 is turbo but it sounds fucking amazing and handles very aggressively.

The only reason why I haven't bought a 911 or a camaro 1LE is that I have to drive 3 kids around sometimes.

Has anyone entertained the idea of a slow low limit car for sliding around? Not "drifting". Something like a brz, miata, s2k?, Or older 911?

I know this sounds crazy. But after you are used to sliding cars around at autoz or track days, a "low limit" car has some appeal for the street.

As the saying goes, "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow".

The current F22 228/230i was a lot of fun in that regard. Just a nice amount of power without putting you too illegal too quickly.

I like a 400hp car but you quickly realize you need the track. The BRZ and Miata are great daily drivable sports cars in those regard, but nobody makes a 4 door RWD sedan at this point that's anything classifiable as fun right now. Kia Stinger is probably the closest option.

Yup, I'm one that left the e9x platform in search of more power. I sold my slicktop manual e90 so I could buy an F10 M5. It wasn't that the M5 wasn't a PHENOMENAL car, it's just that the M3 was irreplaceable. So now, I have an e92 right next to the M5 in the garage and the M5 is for sale. That should tell folks everything they need to know about these cars.

Good to hear all this positive feedback - I too suffer from the grass is greener complex LOL.

I recently drove a Camaro SS with the track pack at Area 27 and was really impressed. Torque was very nice. Plus I enjoyed the auto-rev match with the 6 speed.

I find myself day dreaming of a GTR, or GT350. GT4 would be sweet too.

Probably should stick to the M though, just got some new RIAs and looking to add some Sportsters. Then I'll be content..

For $35k, what other car (even @ 2x the $) can deliver this amount of connectivity to the road, the power, and ultimately the fun??

2x's? 2015 Porsche Cayman S/GTS can get close but it's a bit of a different feel.

I came back to this platform because I was looking in the $25-$30k range. Nothing beats it.

Currently on my 2nd e9x M3 6MT
It's lot of fun on the track but as a daily driver it's not thrilling enough unless revved out frequently.... and that's the problem.
Bought a 2020 BRZ tS and that thing handles so much more nimble during daily driving, this is when I realized that most BMWs are too heavy for track use!
BRZ has a much better 6MT shifter too & the interior is not as cheap as you'd expect BUT it's engine sounds so industrial...
The e9x looks classy & the S65 is truly special!!!
Currently trying to sell the M3, not sure if I'll be able to do it!

I don’t think I’d buy the M3, regardless of generation, if I was looking for a track car unless I planned for very extensive mods. To me, it’s magic is more breadth of ability and quality, combined with a hugely satisfying, and unique, engine.

I agree. It's awesome how the car converts from a luxury sedan to a raw sports car with just a blip of the throttle.

I think the closest thing out there that isnt crazy money is a used GT350. I've toyed selling my E90 many times, and my most recent attempt was to trade it for another to go from DCT to MT. But then I backed off after reviewing why I needed DCT. Later I spoke to some folks that reached out and wanted to see if I would outright sell the car and by mistake may have led some people on after finally deciding I wouldnt sell.

It truly is a hard car to replace.

I also bought mine new and have no plans to replace it either. Like many others already posted, something like a BRZ or Civic Si would be nice to have alongside to play around with. I daily drive a lifted Tundra and work in a fairly industrial area so the M doesn't make it out as much as it used to back when I was at the shiny Headquarters building. A 3rd car would be a hard sell with the 2 car garage which currently contains the E90 and my wife's minivan though.

I think everyone that has the ability to have one of those in the fleet should, as long as you have the room ect...

While not exactly a sports car, that type of car for me is my E36 M3 with a bone stock 240 hp S52. It's a hoot to be able to actually use 100% of its power a lot of the time.

I found the BRZ in stock for too annoyingly slow for everyday use. In this day and age, there's no reason to have less power than an S2k which came out 20 years ago.

I'm also super interested in an electric truck in the distant future, I think they make the perfect daily driver/utility car. I toyed with the idea of getting rid of my Tundra Platinum for an F97 to have an all M fleet, but I find the truck bed so convenient. And it's so nice to have a cushy ride after a long day at work.

I've also toyed with the idea of downsizing from 4 cars to 3 (electric truck, E92 M3 and Boxster Spyder), but realized that the combined $ of these vehicles would far exceed what I have now. Heck I could go to 5 cars (add used F87) and still cost less. I think I prefer having many driving experiences vs having a more exotic fleet if that makes sense.

My two cents on the Tesla (actually both the model 3 perf and model y perf) My father in law purchased a Model Y recently but extensively test drove a model 3 performance before deciding on the Y. I drove it as well; was it fast? Sure. Was it boring as hell too? YES. No soul, no emotion, numb etc. you just don't feel anything. Interestingly, I made these observations while I owned my F10 M5, which is arguably one of the more "numb" and "robotic" of the recent M cars. This isn't a familiarity thing either, I spend about 45 minutes with a 718 Cayman S within the same few weeks and was blown away by it.
