Active Autowerke's Signature Exhaust Review

*Mods please move to the appropriate forum

Hi All,
I had installed AA’s exhaust 2 weeks back and here’s my review of the unit. The exhaust went on a 2008 E92 M3. I was very hesitant in adding an aftermarket exhaust due to the droning in the cabin you hear about; however the stock exhaust on the M3 is too quiet for my tastes. As everyone has mentioned from prior posts, there is a slight drone around 2k rpm, however after that it quiets down. At idle, you can hear a deep burble emanating from the V8…this is how it should have sounded from the factory.

I did a 600 mile trip during this past holiday weekend and NCC’s (noise canceling chambers) did the job very effectively in alleviating any drone in the cabin. Don’t get me wrong, the car is much louder than stock, but it isn’t a sound/noise that will tire you out on long distance trips. As I said, once you past 2k rpm, the car sounds stock if you will, but with a deeper tone like how a proper V8 should sound. Put it this way, I love the sound of the exhaust so much that during the first 300 miles or so, I left the radio off just to listen to the music coming from the exhaust. It truly is intoxicating.

The only con I have which is very minor is that the passenger side NCC is a smidge lower than the driver’s side. I hope to get that fixed when I install AA’s X-pipe with HFC’s soon. Other than that I’m extremely happy with the exhaust.

In as far as performance, the butt meter says that the midrange is better and the car feels a little quicker from 5k rpm on up. I also installed AA’s air filter. The quality of the exhaust is superb and I get comments unfortunately from guys that think it sounds awesome. In fact, someone had hit my rear bumper at a stoplight after only a day of getting the exhaust installed. He said he was admiring the exhaust and didn’t realize I had stopped. Thank goodness no one was hurt (it’s just a car) and it was minor damage to my bumper which I’m getting repaired as we speak. As a side note, you will get stares from pedestrians so if you’re shy please keep the stock unit on.

The service and knowledge from Active Autowerkes is top notch and that is the reason why I’m adding their X-pipe, pulley, and maybe the tune to the car very shortly. Thanks.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

My AA seems to have gotten louder over time. At first, I barely noticed it at highway speeds, but now it seems alot more noticeable, to the point that it bothers me a bit cruising on the highway.

It definitely gets louder over time... as all exhausts do. Mine doesn't bother me though at all, I love the sound of it.

AA exhaust was the last mod I made to the car and it made it sound a whole lot better. Only thing, it's bad for my gas mileage..lol
