catless and tune NY inspection time, what to do?

so im running catless x and gintani tune and my inspection has been expired but i dont think i will pass because on my scanner the 02 sensor and catalyst monitoring comes up as incomplete (from the tune i know)
ive searched a lot and some guys say theyve passed with catless + tune but i dont know how that would be.
anyone have experience with this in ny? is there any way around this other than removing xpipe and flashing back to stock?

If your rear o2’s are turned off in the tune to keep the cel from coming, then you won’t pass. You can’t pass with two monitors not set in this part of ny and the two o2 monitors wont set with the rear o2’s turned off. I’ve had fair success with the stock ecu and using defoulers on the rear o2’s. Just gotta drive easy for the monitor to set and keep driving easy till inspection.

So i’m not fully catless. Running arh headers with highflow cats. Somehow i doobt those cats do anything though. Stinks like a bitch lol. I used the defoulers they provided. I’m gonna run catless on my other m3 with stock headers and I bought these defoulers to try: http://www.bigdaddiesgarage.com/stra...MaAkyuEALw_wcB

Apprently autozone sells some too but these looked nice.

just did some reading on them seems like some people are able to get by without a cel long enough to pass inspection but seems to be mostly the guys w hfc so let me know how you do with the catless setup, im gunna try it out also when i get around to it hopefully soon...

Currently running fabspeed primary hfc and secondary delete xpipe. I’m also running o2 sensor spacer. No cel ever came on and last year I was able to inspect my car no problem. Finally got a tune done through Gintani and I went to go get my inspection done today and it failed. Said cats and o2 sensor not ready. Seems like gintani is shutting those two sensors off with tune.

Any way around this? I was told by them that I wouldn’t have an issue with getting inspected when I called to get my car tuned.

If it is a new flash then your car is not in "ready" state. You need to do the emissions test drive reset following the formal procedure, or just drive around a while and it will eventually clear. You can easily google it but basically it involves idling for 5 minutes from cold start, driving slowly uninterrupted, driving at a faster speed uninterrupted, then stopping and idling again.

Was having this same quandary, as I'm due for inspection at the end of the month too.

With my current setup every 2 years I need to swap the stock X-pipe back in and flash back to the stock map. Currently running a ESS Tune, which is pretty easy to undo. Lots of mixed reviews on whether or not the defoulers actually work, but it would be nice to not have to put the stocker back on.

I have it down to the point that it takes me less than a few hours to put the stocker back and then an hour or two to swap back to the catless. Was thinking about a catted X-pipe but they are pretty pricey, and seems like very few manufacturers even have them anymore.

I think it would be easier to swap it to oem primary cats and switch to stock map. Do the emission test and swap it back

I have the Evolve tune over 6yrs, 3yrs with the full Akrapovic Evo and 3yrs full catless Akrapovic GT4. I have no problem doing inspecetion every year, but I think I had change the O2 sensors 2 or 3 times in 6 years. Do you want to bring your car to my mechanic to let him take a look? PM me your number if you want to do it, he is at Sunset Park Brooklyn.

i believe thats because your tune sets the rear cat 02 sensor as ready from what ive heard, but gintanis tune does not which makes getting this inspection such a hassle

Stock Tune which enables the O2 sensor or an ESS catted tune.

I have the ess catted tune on my car right now. Is there a way I can go to autozone and see if that throws any codes to check before I fail?

If your OBD scan tool says that the readiness is "incomplete" then you wont pass. No easy way around it except to swap the cats in, flash your stock tune back and have the car inspected. I was in this very same dilemma but I sold the car before hand. I was actually going to have a set of vband clamps installed on the cats and the x-pipe to make swapping them on and off easier. The link below is where I got the idea from.
