Castrol use to be the old oem oil until bmw changed over to shell (Mpower oil)

Castrol was the OEM Oil for BMW then the partnership ended

BMW partnered up with Shell and lets them rebrand their SHELL Helix oil as their own

Personally this is what I do. I actually just ordered my next kit from them, but decided to order a liter from Amazon just to have if I ever need to top off.

If you walk into a dealer, you might pay as much as $20. The lowest I typically see is $13/L for the cases.
