Advice on negotiating for a new 2010 model?

I'm thinking about getting a new 2010 E92 that a local dealer has. I know how to negotiate a 2011 model year M3, whether to lease or to purchase, but I'm flummoxed as to how to value this car. Doesn't make sense to start at dealer invoice, but how far below invoice is fair? And if I lease, how does the residual work? I know the residuals for the 2011 MYs, but those residuals shouldn't apply to a 2010MY. Any advice?

I would wager that you would not want to lease a 2010 MY vehicle at this point. As it is one model year older, the residual should be lower. This will result in a larger payment as you are paying more of the vehicle off over the life of the lease. Even with discounting, you may find that the 2011 is the better deal. You would want to run the numbers on both. The only thing that would help the 2010 is a dealer incentive large enough to offset the residual difference.

Good luck!

You should be able to get a bigger BMW cash back on the 2010 car also to offset the difference if you decide to lease..
