$7500 off MSRP a rumor?

I think a lot of the resale value will depend on gas prices. If a gallon of 93 octane stabilizes at $5.00 or higher, that's a huge disincentive for the car.

I think BMW and MB made a tactical mistake in going for large displacement naturally aspirated engines for the M/AMG lines right as gas prices spiked up.

Actually, I'd consider leasing more seriously in part as a hedge against higher gas prices. If gas goes into the stratosphere, in two years, I'd want to be dumping that car back on the dealer, not trying to sell it.

I can see a dealership really wanting to move a car, but to have to pay someone to take a brand new M3? I mean surely someone across the US would happily take it for $1k over invoice. All they'd need to do is trade it off to a dealership with a larger M3 demand.

I agree somewhat, but honeslty, this isn't the type of car where people should be complaining about gas prices. I know this isn't a Ferrari, but still - if you can afford a ~$70K car, one would guess that money isn't in short supply

I went through this process too, but then thought - what else would you buy if not an M3? Its not like any other high-end sports car is great on gas, right? I can't see myself rolling in a prius....not yet atleast, haha.

What about a 2008 Porsche 911 (base model 325 HP) or if you can wait, the 2009 Porsche 911 (base model 345 HP). While I have a 2009 M3 on order, if I find a deal for the 2008 911, I may just bite.

Whats the MSRP and milage on those? 30 MPG??

MSRP 2008 911 (73-74K), 2009 911 (75-78K)-- MPG 18 city/26 hwy. Not too bad.

Not I. I'm pretty fickle about my daily driver, and I want a new one every 2-3 years. The M3 is a daily driver, so I'd prefer to jump in and out after two years. When my 335i lease ends, I will probably look into leasing an E92 M3, but if the residuals are poor, financing may be a superior option.

Else, I'll just look at other cars (Audi S5/RS5, Porsche 911).

You better be in the Military stationed overseas if you want to save $7500.00 or more on the New M3 I know I saved allot over $7500.00 going this route

The biggest gap you can get between invoice and MSRP on a e90 M3 6mt is about $5800. You can prove this to yourself by pricing a loaded one at edmunds.com.

I can't see a car going from 14/20 to 20/28 because of a transmission. Not to say you can't take a car that gets 20/28 and make it do 14/20, but you probably wouldn't. Going the other way is the tricky part.
