Billet Aluminum Jack Pads - Buh Bye Plastic.
Working on a little project to replace the stupid plastic BMW jack pads with something more usable. I've hated this BMW way of life since the first time I went to jack up the car and put it on stands.
I've got a pretty nice home shop to make things, so this has been on my to do list. I've got the pads done now, just needs to make some hold down plates/nuts and get them installed. Block of material in the CNC machine. Roughed out. Semi-finishing The block of aluminum is pretty heavy to start, so the backside is completely hollowed out to reduce the weight, becauseracecar. M Logo just because. I narrowed the lower profile so it fits nicely inside the Schwaben jack stands.

saw your post on IG, these are so sick! only design i would add is knurled texture on the bottom to grip onto jack stands.

another note, probably would have to powercoat these in order to avoid galvanic corrosion on of the frame rails.

nice work! probably not very practical or cost effective, but why not because you can.

Finished the mounting nuts last night, hopefully mount them on the car this evening.
I've thought about adding some grooves for grip, but I typically like the car to slide around on the stand while jacking things around as opposed to the car fixed to the stand and tipping the stand over. But adding grooves is easy if needed. I mostly do projects for me these days, a full set would likely be over $200, I'd need to go review material cost and total time. |

Very nice. Can you make them in titanium for lighter weight (I kid. I kid, but someone had to ask). Your shop qualifies as "nice" indeed! Impressed. More pics of it please!

You should think of a small production run. Most of us too are tired of shops (I avoid at all costs but some clubs require a certified shop inspection prior to track events). I would swap out my chewed up and busted up plastic ones in a moment. Think about it if you've already done the programming and it's just time and materials. Another buyer here.

Well I bought some material to be able to make about a dozen sets of these. Still not exactly sure when I'll get started, I have a bunch of other projects I'm also working on and it's still summer! But it's officially on my to-do list.
Here's a picture of the "shop" portion of the garage for those interested. And one from the outside, with a knife I made.
