I just read that the back side of the iPad is curved just like the iphone. WTF? That's one of the most retarded thing about the iphone in my opinion. It rocks around like a boat when you are trying to type with it on the table.

Seeing the improvements to the current Apple apps and then seeing iWork in action shows how much more capable this device is over the iPhone. Most people just find it easier to glance at a photo and call it stupid, just a larger iphone, etc. But you can't expect much more on the internet. The same skepticism came when the first iPod was released, and then the iPhone. Look at how those did?

It seems like all the people who actually had the chance to use it firsthand were amazed by it...even the skeptics.

To those who say the iPad isn't "understood" I'll concede you guys have some fair points. However, you have to concede that:
-the name is terrible. Should have been iTablet
-GPS would have made this device just that much better. A $15 chip would eliminate the need for someone to buy factory navigation or a TomTom. In fact, GPS is probably the killer app missing from the iPad
-Multi-tasking should have been mandatory. Plenty of people would like to run apps in the background
-The ability to run Java programs would have vastly opened up the playing field in terms of programs available to the end user.

It has GPS on the 3G models.

GPS would be useless on the WiFi only models because when you would use the GPS, you would not have a WiFi connection to load the maps. Therefore useless.

You could download GPS Navigation from the App Store and use it as a "Navigation Slate". Although i dont know of anyone who would carry it around instead of an iPhone.

I don't think it's a true GPS. It uses the cellular signal to track your location, so it is not accurate enough to use by turn by turn navi apps.

I agree that the name isn't that great. But it definitely is better than iTablet.

Arguable. Apple doesn't design products that fit everyone's needs. That's how mediocre products are produced. Apple always has clear goals with their products and are selling to a target user base. It's already a given that you can't please everyone, so it's not even worth trying. Adding GPS would have probably added $100 or so to the cost and for a device where most people won't be walking or driving around with it, it seems like a valid feature to cut costs on. I don't disagree with you though. GPS would be nice. But it's far from necessary for who this device is intended for.

This is another thing that isn't easy to just add. The iPhone OS is not designed to multitask. It was designed to run 1 app at a time. And there is multitasking, just not for 3rd party apps. Mail, Calendar, Clock, and the iPod all run in the background. With the current generation iPhone and the new iPad, apps launch pretty much instantly so multitasking for speedier launches is useless. There are really only 2 other reasons for background applications:

1. Getting notified that there's new data in the app for you to check. Apple solved this issue (for the most part) with push notification. And it works well if done correctly.

2. Some apps benefit from constantly working in the background. Apps that stream music is a good example. We even have an app that would benefit greatly from apps being able to run in the background.

With that said, it's not as easy as adding multitasking. Memory becomes a huge issue. It becomes the user's responsibility to do memory management and quit apps that they don't need. This is how it works on Android, and it's not user friendly at all. If and when Apple allows multitasking, either ram won't be an issue anymore or they will have developed a seamless way to do it without the user having to manually quit apps.

I'll just say, "ummm, no." Whens the last time you counted how many apps are on the app store? Those are all available for the iPad. And in a year, there will be a lot of apps developed specifically for the iPad. Apple doesn't want flash on their platform, nevermind java.

Which you're still wrong on. It has A-GPS on the 3G models. The same A-GPS that is in the 3G and 3GS iPhone.

The iPhone 3GS tech specs also only say Assisted and Cellular GPS so I think it's safe to assume you are correct.

Well he would be wrong by saying g2 not having GPS as the 2nd generation is the 3G. The only iPhone model that lacks GPS is the original iPhone( 1st gen). The 3G(2nd gen) and 3GS(3rd gen) both have true GPS.

If only the iPhone had flash, it would be a big hit.

If it was running MacOS, it would fail just like all the other tablet PCs.

I think it's an interesting first step, just like the first iPod was. The lack of multitasking disappoints me, though.

I can think of some very cool things you could use these for for photography and filmmaking purposes, but the thing is I don't think it has the processing power to handle what I have in mind.
