Semi-new M3 Owner

After years of owning other BMW's, I finally found the perfect M3 for me and went all in.

The E92 M3 has always been my dream car, it's just too beautiful not to admire.

Picked up a 2009 Jerez Black E92 M3 for a great price and I've been getting used to it as my weekend car. Just completed paint correction (previous owner left swirl marks everywhere) and recently had my rod bearings replaced, and I've been adding little things to it.

Here are some photos of my baby and also my daily baby (e46).

Nice man, did the paint correction leave the pain looking like new again? I have some swirl on my M3 I don't like looking at.

It looks tons better, I had a lot of swirls and I hated it. I definitely recommend doing it

This is what the bearings looked like. Had 67k on them when I bought it, now sitting at 70k.

These aren't too bad actually. I've done my RB's twice now and my originals with 30,000 looked horrible. My 2nds Replaced at 150,000 looked really good for having 120,000 put on'em. Congrats on the car man. Let it complete the cold cycle before you take off everyday and she'll be good for a long time.

Nice subtle white letters on the wheels. Was wondering how that would look on one of our cars.

Scrippy, Im sure you posted your 2nd RB replacement but cant seem to find it. Mind posting the link should you bump into it mate? Curious to see those 120k shells, what they where and what you decided to go for next.

Thanks

I didn't post anything on my 2nd RB job. I only did them the second time because I hit a knarly bump in the road that took out my oil pan. Oil leaked out the remainder of my drive home unknowingly. When I turned my car off....sploosh, the remaining oil all fell out in my garage all at once. My insurance covered the oil pan, trans pan and engine mounts and I asked the dealer to do my RB's again while already there. I paid for the RB's out of pocket $2500 as the insurance work already had them removing stuff in the related area. The dealership guarantees the work & parts for the life of my ownership, so I did it for that reason as well. I've attached a pic of my BE bearings that I had from 25,000 to 150,000 and they look great I think given the mileage. Top is cylinder #1 top then bottoms down to #8.

Edit:5th shell is 180 degrees out of phase. It wear pattern looks different to the rest but I taped it together wrong compared to the rest. Wear seems pretty even amongst them all.

Thanks Scrippy. Wow this is interesting, not many 2nd replacement posted and BE makes it even more interesting (damn you must be adding up miles mate!). Yeah 120k is a fair mileage but still, most assume the increased clearance will make things "normal" i.e. basically no wear which they do seem to have?
Again interesting stuff, great if you post here as well where most replacement are: https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1253084

Thanks

So this is only my opinion but it's all about oil man. I believe if you change it at 5,000 NO MORE THAN 7,000. Every morning let your warm up cycle complete before setting off and when you do keep it under 3,000 until warm. That's all to do other than enjoy.

Interesting, if the clearance is not issue in these...I think you might be right with the oil unless it’s normal wear for any sports car that ran 120k miles

Congrats! I also used to own a pre-facelift TiAg Mtech E46 with 19" CSL reps. Our cars would have been twins haha

Can you help clarify what we're looking at -- WPC or BE? Maybe could you post pictures of the backs of the shells to show the markings?

Here's a post that shows your first set of bearings on a car bought at 40000 miles. Work done at EAS 6-months before BE Bearings were first sold.
https://www.m3post.com/forums/showpost.php?p=17946174

Here's a post that says seems to show your second set of bearings and says they are WPC and 98000 miles. But the post says the first set replaced at 25000 miles, not 40000 miles. They seem to be the same set of shells, but hard to tell for sure.
