ID4motion digital cluster, anyone use this?

Just came across this a couple mins ago and haven't looked into it to much but I'm curious if anyone has any experience with it.

Looks like it belongs in a modern Honda and not a classic BMW.

Not sure if it's the same as this or not, but there do seem to be some users https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1689027

I think it almost brings our aging cars closer to modern tech or at least looks.

I'm also curious if it adjust for the RPMs. My tune pushes the redline to 8400. And does it display the gear you're in on the 6MTs or give you the shift light? And if it changes the redline for cold starts like it does for stock configurations. Having the race mode would be nice for track days too.

I can think of way worse mods for a lot more cash. Like giant wings, sorry giant wing guys but those things look ridiculous and more out of place than a digital gauge cluster.

Our cars are not "aging"...an M3 does not simply age. It is TIMELESS.

Honestly the only thing our car is lacking compared to all the modern cars is Apple Carplay. Once you install a carplay MMI, you will not miss any "modern tech". The Carplay MMI uses the same OEM idrive screen and controller knob, and the original BMW iDrive system/menu is retained.

I have one and love it. It has its cons but the pros are worth it. The biggest con is no shift speed indicator (For DCT) but I am at full send unless I am in traffic. I can also adjust by feel.

You can adjust the redline to 9k, no redline at cold start.

That does look pretty cool.

I also think the E9x M3 gauges are such a timeless and beautiful design.

Modifications (especially on a future classic) should be generation/period specific.

Would you throw a digital cluster on an E30 M3? Cmon man…

If you like tasteless modifications, go drive a Nissan Maxima with an eBay hood scoop or a Infiniti Q50 with M style mirror caps 🤣

It is like the old classic VDO gauges in G series 911s. Absolutely classic. Leave them alone.

I would do whatever I would think is interesting to me and what I like. I refuse to mod my car based on what is cool or what I'm supposed to do. I'm basically the only one who drives it and pays for it. Outside influences fall on deaf ears. If I had an E30 and there was a digital gauge that fit and looked good to me, then yes, yes I would install it. I don't think this one for the E9X series looks out of place at all. If you watch the video there are all kinds of skins that work for our cars. As far as it being a future classic, I couldn't care less. That's not why I bought it or why I would buy any car or anything unless the intent is for investment purposes. I drive mine and therefore it depreciates every time I fire it up, so I'm over it.

Imagine if the car world would build cars on there own opinions opposed to what is trendy, imagine the possibilities. Take all those rat rods for example. They all look and act the same. Patina panels, open wheel wells, couple chrome a arms and bucket seats with a chopped top. Modifying a car should never follow a recipe but they unfortunately do.

But none of that is my point or my question or reason for posting this in the first place. I'm looking to see any real world uses of the product and if those dudes or dudets like it.

I am with you on that, I like that the OE-looking cluster is just a click away. You can move things around like the MPG, oil temp, batt voltage, and so on at the bottom of the cluster

My 2 cents. All these electronic sensors and such. It's like software. Excel can do amazing things but IRL I use maybe 5% of it's capabilities. A HUD tach would be about the only gauge mod I'd really love.

I think I comes down to aesthetics with the option to use it at your whim. How many mods do people do that don't get used that much? So many "race" cars with huge wings, lip spoilers, roll cages, the list is endless on cars hardly ever if at all see a track? The option is there to use it.

It's in a majority of car guys nature to move away from stock OEM parts with the intent to set their car apart from others or to physically do the work yourself or to impress your friends or countless other reasons. I've got a 400 and something horsepower car that I rarely use the upper end of said power and I'm sure I'm not alone on that but the option is there. To me the gauges are just that, an option that is there to use at my choosing.

In this day and age of big screens in cars, I'm beginning to appreciate my analog meters more and more.
