How does water get in the trunk bottom?

Hey everyone,

I'm wondering how water is able to get in the bottom of the trunk and ruin the combox (and also rust things out)? I think it might be that black plug on the upper left not actually sealing too well?

I have never noticed any wet carpet in the trunk and I see no signs of any leak from above near the rear window and trunk lid, so I believe it came up from the bottom somewhere.

The car has never been in a flood, but I have had it through a brushless car wash several times over the years, which sprays water up from below when you enter it. So, I have to assume it's either from that or just regular driving in the rain.

If it is that black plug, then I guess the only option is to seal it up with some RTV or similar to prevent this from happening again?

Thanks for any feedback and suggestions!

either gonna be a failed bonding in the rear glass or coming through the tail light seal.

Does this car have a sunroof? If it does, drain tube can be clogged/or failed.

Hm, I know the rubber around the back glass is pretty wore out and I am about to be replacing it, but I don't think it actually seals anything and didn't think the factory bond on the glass that does seal things would be prone to failing. I guess I'll need to look more into that before putting new rubber around it in case it has failed.

I have noticed the tail lights not looking in the greatest shape these days, and have seen some moisture inside them a couple of times, so will have to look closer at them too.

Thanks for the suggestions!!

It does have a sunroof, so will have to figure out where this drain tube might be.

Thanks man!
