Yeah I forgot all that stuff. I drank two gallons of water, three Clif bars, and Tylenol. I did find out today how out of shape I am. Everything is sore. Lol

What tire racks you guys got? Wheels? Tires? How do I fit four tires in the car with tools?

Really do need better seat though. I was all over the place, I think that’s a bunch of my fatigue. Need to find a seat for a large person though. Maybe I’ll line my seat and pants with Velcro. May work

I'd actually recommend sticking with a less grippy tire. I'm partial to Hankook RS4s. As someone just starting out, you will learn more about car control on a DOT tire that has good feedback and progressive loss of grip. R-Comps like the NT01 will hide mistakes. The transition from grip to slide on the NT01 is much more dramatic than the RS4 or equivalent. That's why I run RS4's on my track cars still, instead of NT01s. Truth to be told, it's also more fun. Once you reach the limit of the car on something like the 'Kooks and want to chase 10ths of a second, then think about moving up to the NT01s. |

I am running crappy Ventus v12. I would brake hard and late and the car would get squirrelly. So I started to brake early and power out of the corner. I figure it was due to lack of grip. I do like the rs4 but got a good deal on a slightly used set of nt01. I mean I am no rookie. I have played gran turismo for 20 years, lol. I def need to look at seats. At 6’4” 265lbs it’s tough I have sat in a bunch and I felt like chris Farley in his little coat Don’t think I want to do a performance seat but rather go to a fixed seat. Plus my helmet was hitting the top

I did a pad slap on my OEM rotors for my second track time ever and it warped the rotors on the first session only temporarily though. After that they were fine for the rest of the day. I'm sure there's tons of good options out there but ran EBC yellow stuff, they were noisy and dusty but worked great. Since then I've gone to stop tech, I've seen some killer deals on brake setups lately on this forum, if you're looking at spending $500 on pads maybe consider a decent front used bbk.

Running a StopTech st60 up front and stock rear. Suspension wise I’ve got Bilstein b8 with swift springs, solid subs and diff bushings. Also running a Dinan bar up front, on the softest setting. Thinking of MCS 2wnr coilovers though.

Never mind, tires it is. Was under the impression you were running a stock car. Sounds like brakes and suspension are sorted.

Were you possibly running DSC full on or MDM? I ran euro mdm my first couple of track days and had the same thing you describe under heavy braking. When I went full DSC off (coincidentally at Cresson) that went away and felt much more solid under heavy braking. Might be what is happening if you are running with DSC on.
Seats, harnesses, and half cage were the first major upgrades I did to my car. So worth it. Besides the obvious safety advantages the stability and comfort levels are much higher. The enjoyment factor jumped tremendously just from these changes alone. Dedicated track car though so I didn’t have to worry about how appropriate they were for street driving. If you don’t have a shop close with a decent seat selection - Winding road in Austin usually does. Hit them on a Friday, then COTA sat & sun, nice little weekend. |
