Cold start issue, revs problems..

Hi Guys,

When i start my m3 in the morning, only when cold engine, the revs are jumping from 1500-500 rpm...They cant stay stable... After few seconds it stops and everything is fine... It happens only when cold engine..

Do you know why it could be?

Thanks alot!!!

My take is your ICV (idle control valve) is on the way out, especially if your car is an '08 or an early '09 (next time state model year and mileage man). A few rpm fluctuation is normal, but not that radical. At some point you'll get all the warnings; then it's time to take the car in. You can usually clear the warnings a few times by turning engine off then on again, but after that they'll stay permanently, and you'd be in 'limp mode'. Unless you're dealing with a dealer which has fixed that issue before, you'd be wasting your time without the engine warnings due to no codes in the DME. I wouldn't embark on a long trip until you get that issue resolved. Good luck.

You should get your ICV checked by the dealer.

Tune or stock?

If tuned, could be a fuel issue...

If stock, most likely ICV as others have stated. What year is your car? ICV was common on early 08 and before in US.

My ICV is on it's way out. Mine isn't as far along as the OP's though. The dealer won't do anything because there aren't any codes/faults yet. Warranty is up in May.

Hello everyone, I can proudly say that I solved my problem. I decided to changed the icv so as the vent which is at he back of the car. When I started it the first time, nothing has changed but when I went for the drive and left it everything became fine... ICV WAS THE CASE!!! Thanks everyone for help.

Hey guys I'm having similar problems with my 2011.5 dct. On cold starts while going down my driveway and stopping it jumps from 5-1.5k for constantly for about three times and stops. You guy think it's the icv as well??
