Remove Snap In Cradle/Adapter Help

I have a 2011 e92 M3, and i have been trying to remove my phone cradle and i cant seem to remove it. I was able to disconnect the 2 wires under the e-brake, but there is a 3rd wire that is going towards the rear of the car and i cant figure out how to disconnect it. I even took off my rear vent since the f30's have their connection there, but i didnt see anything.

the other posts show DIY which only have the 2 wires under the ebrake.

I have searched and googled and none of them show how to remove the 3rd wire. Can you guys please help me?

Ghetto solution

Ive been searching for a solution for this for quite a while now with no luck. Its been really annoying me since all of the solutions on youtube or forum only has two wires, NO ONE knows what the hell this third wire is for, ect.

Ive heard some stories of people just cutting the third wire and it was fine but I didnt want to take that chance since again, I have no idea what it does.

That being said. This is what I did.

Full disclosure here: this is not a graceful method by all means and if you have any desire to salvage any money for that cradle or keep it around just in case you want to re-attach it, this method is not for you.

The third wire was attached to the chip that is essentially the pin. So my solution without cutting the wire was to just destroy the plastic frame surrounding the chip. All that is left is the wire attached to the chip.

I pushed it back in, and then opened the e brake cover and then cable tied it to the side so it doesnt get under the e brake or shake around.

Hope this helps.

Side note : And if anyone actually has a legit solution to this third wire or know what the hell it does please let us know.

Holy cow you wasted that snap in adapter! You are supposed to unplug the wiring harness first by the e-brake and the whole adapter plate along with 12-18" of harness comes out. Why are you removing the snapin plate anyway?

I’m running into this issue too and there’s not much info on it actually. There’s a third wire in the M3 that is Not in the 3-series that runs towards the back of the center console and not easy to access like the other wires. Bumping this thread as I’m trying to find a solution to disconnect it but looks like I will need to remove the rear console and maybe more to get to it

The whole snap in adapter unplugs. No wires need to be cut. 3 plugs.
1-for aerial antenna (purple I think)
1-for USB (white or blue I think)
1-power, video aux (black for sure)
They all unplug. Remove e brake boot for the 3rd connector. Good luck

The 3rd goes back to the trunk. Plugs into either MulfII or Combox USB port depending on which you have. It is a multi conductor coax wire that serves as USB wiring. Fakra is the connector type I believe.

I made it a mission to find the 3rd wire a few months ago and removed my cradle.

The 3rd wire doesn't go back to the trunk on my car. If I remember correctly, it routes from the cradle to the rear vent so you have to remove that and the rear console and from there it wraps around to the passenger side about half way of the front console. Once you find the wire by the rear vent, follow it to the passenger side wall of the front console and you can fish it out and disconnect it. I was able to do it by moving the passenger seat all the way forward, sitting in the back seat to do this.

I circled the general location of the wire on the pic.

Apologies for the zombie thread, but I’d appreciate any more pics on this if anybody can point me to the right thread or video. TIA.

2011 e92 M3, and I definitely have the aforementioned extra wire that isn’t in any of the Youtube videos I’ve found.

I wound up just cutting the wire and haven't seen any issues, but I'd love to see how folks properly disconnected it. Anyone?

I did this today. You need to remove the rear center console to unplug the 3rd cable. It’s the blue connector in the photo. Once you do that, the cradle can be pulled out of the center console. Hope this helps anyone else doing this.
