Don't you hate how stock rotors rust so quicky?
I noticed how standard rotors rust within 20 minutes of high pressure washing and this is since the car was new!
The rust discolours inside the ventilated rotors and also on the hubs drove me crazy!! Since I fitted the Brembo 380 kit, the steel doesn't rust the same way as stock did. Must be shittier grade steel? |

I noticed that too; first time that this ever happens to one of my cars.
And have you seen your hubs? Mine were big time rusted; had to spend hours sanding down all the rust. Pretty shitty wheel design, that keeps water puddled in there for weeks. When I pulled out one of the 'BMW' wheel emblems out, there was still water there after a week since car was washed!. I insterted shop paper towels rolled into a 'tube', then rolled the 'tube' and inserted it inside the wheel, just ahead of the hub, expanded it so it was touching the wheel everywhere, and reinstalled the emblems. That way at least the towels would absorb standing water when raining. WHen washing, high-pressure washers still force a lot of water in there, so I might remove the emblems and towels before washing in the future. Front wheels weren't rusted that bad, but rears are really bad. And I live in the freaking desert. Can't imagine this car at sea level after 10 years . |

The M3 hub is crappy as as above post says, water is trapped in them and when you take your wheels off they look terrible!! The brembo steel rotors seem to be a superior grade steel and the hubs are finished in black powder coated so they look slick as hell and always clean. After washing standard brakes, the rust would dry and then orange dust would be left behind inside the wheels and on the outer rim. |

Simple solutions, pull the wheels and sand and paint the rotor hubs. I recommend doing this off the car but it's your car so your choice. You can do the wheel hub as well. If you don't want to paint that hub then sand it and put some anti-sieze on it. Say goodbye to ugly rusty hubs.

Are your wheels in balance? If you have a bend or your wheels are out of balance, they can cause your rotors to warp under harder use.

That is is essence what is happening with out of balance or bent wheels. If the vibration is bad enough, it causes uneven heating of the rotors and warps them. A minor out of balance will not cause it, but a badly out of balance wheel or bent large diameter wheel could cause this.

In a word, no. There is no way an unevenly rotating rotor will heat up any more than an evenly rotating one. That simply defies basic physics. |

Perhaps your right. I have heard it from a couple of mechanics, but they could have been wrong.

Doesn't bother me because if I drive the car around the block the rust goes away 100%
