Stupid question due to a stupid mistake

Hello there everyone, I had a quick question (and before I ask, please forgive me in advance because this was very very very stupid). In any case, I was on the freeway and wanted to give the car a little go. As a result, I waited for some clearing, I was going between 70 and 80 mph and stupidly I shifted down too many times and hit 2nd gear on accident (this was the dumb thing). As a result, my car quickly jumped to 7000 rpm and it completely scared me. I then quickly shifted back up to 7th gear and just drove home normally. My question here is, did I cause any permanent damage to my transmission? Should I be paranoid about anything? I never push my car, I usually drive it grandma-ish, but I wanted to have a little bit of fun and that completely failed.

Thanks everyone

^ this. DCT won't let you downshift too an unsafe gear. Next time floor it till you feel the click, then hit the left paddle once and it will take you to lowest safe gear . Best feature ever!!

As long as you don't exceed 8,700 RPM (which is impossible with DCT), you're fine.

I often shift down very fast for two reasons: to hear the bark and speeeeedddd. Btw, pushing the car hard every now and then (or more often than not) is actually good for it. Don't want your car to get lazy now

Not sure about the C63 but yeah try it next time. When in manuel mode Floor it hard till you feel the click in your right foot, then downshift once and DCT will take you to lowest gear possible. Great for when you are on the freeway coasting in 7th and decide to take off! If you floor it till it clicks when in auto mode it will just shift down to lowest gear automatically.

OP just curious why you chose an m3 if you never push the car? Not trying to be a jerk but seems strange to buy an expensive sports car and drive like a grandma and freak out when your rpm hits 7k when that isn't even near redline.

I didn't know it would do that for you in manual mode, obviously in automatic mode but I thought you had to downshift through every single gear when you had it manual. So this works even if your in S6 with traction off or does that not even matter?

You are not kidding..the car has a tendency to "adapt" to the way its driven..push it harder, its more responsive..lug it and it defintely feels sluggish..

No kidding. I bounce off the limiter multiple times a day on my 335. Can't wait for my M3 to show up. My exhaust and tune with 8,600 rev limit increase is just waiting to be installed on the first day of ownership and I will definitely be going all the way to 8,600 on day 1 and every day of ownership.

What is the point of getting crap mileage, no low end torque and really not much fun at low rpm driving. Buy a 335 if that is how you drive.

Shocking that this post is for real. Crying because he shifted into 2nd gear at 7k. My lord
dude i was just about to post the same thing

first, with dct, you cant even downshift into second at 70-80. the fastest ive been able to downshift into 2nd was at around 65 mph

second, who cares. if you arent redlining it daily then go get a 328 or something

third, how is this even a thread hahahaha

My Mama always said .."Stupid is..as Stupid does"..Forest, Forest..is that you? LOL

seriously think about if OP had down shifted an MT from 6th to 2nd..this thread would have a much different vibe..Just be glad that there is the idiot proof transmission that will forgive these errors..

MT.. its what separates the men from the boys

Yeah, he wants you to turn in your keys...riff raff. Barbarian! Lol!

On a serious note....it is sad to see my car during daily driving in slow traffic. It only starts to become alive at 5K+. Otherwise my car is depressed and sad, like a Tiger stuck in a cage (think cruel menagerie). I need help
