Potential DCT issues?
Hi everyone, I have noticed a few times when trying to have fun with TC off trying to slide corner exits the car will sometimes completely shut off the throttle. Mind you this happens in manual mode with the most aggressive shift setting and full TC off. 3/4+ tank of gas and all injectors just replaced, so fuel issues seem unlikely unless it’s the pump itself.
After taking the car out tonight and doing some aggressive driving, I got “Transmission Malfunction, Limited Gear Selections Possible” which made the car only use odd gears. This went away after shutting off and on the car, and I have yet to scan/read the codes, I’m just curious if these 2 issues seem like isolated problems or could be both the same root cause. Just had a full DCT service done (filters, fluid, new DCT pan) and I do have the GTS DCT tune (done by previous owner so IDK which version it is). 100k miles on the car. From what I read so far these are my options: Check battery charge (seems unlikely as I just charged it up fully after it died a week ago. Battery is only a few years old too) Redo all the adaptations (clutch slip, torque curve, etc.) Check and top off DCT fluid (seems unlikely due to recent service) Re-flash DCT to original tune Any and all help on these issues would be much appreciated as this car has been nothing but problems so far lol. |

If the DCT service was done but the fluid balancing procedure was not performed correctly or at all your fluid level is low and you are likely overheating your transmission. I do not trust anyone but me to check my fluid levels. You should be just as cautious.

Agreed, just curious coming from someone with minimal technical experience, how can the physical level of the fluid be affected by the balancing procedure?

Here are the codes:
5A45 – Clutch 2, incorrect pressure 5A43 - Clutch pressure sensor 2 Cleared and will test the car later, I read on another thread someone had the same issue and just cleared it and it never re-appeared, however I wonder if this is due to improper/lack of re-adaptation when DCT service was done. |

sounds like another mechatronic failure? I had the same issue when shifting aggressively and lost 1/3/5 and reverse gears

Attached an example using Bimmergeeks Protool (reduced PDF, PM if you want complete Excel). As you can see also the specified pressure and torque are there hence possible to get a feel for deviations. Using Protool one can select what sensors you want to look at incl RPM, gear etc. As a side comment Protool only clear adaptation, doesn't handle clutch re-learn, the idea being one re-learn while driving. After the dealer performed a proper re learn on my car recently (after replacing temp sensor) it definitely felt different/better. |
