Moving to Colorado
So I found out my family and I will be moving to Colorado Springs before the end of the year. I was hoping to hear if anyone had any prior experience with registration and taxes on a military sales vehicle purchased overseas and then registered in the US for the first time in Colorado? How do they end up taxing the sale price of the car? I have heard that a few states tax on original sale price no matter the age and others based on current book value. Im hoping Colorado is the latter...
Also, with BMW Home Shipment program, do they ship the car to the closest BMW dealer or do they send it to one of the five main ports and if its to a port, whats the closest to Colorado? Im hearing something about California 1000 miles away. Would be a nice road trip I suppose but its going to be on winter tires... lame... Anyway, I really appreciate any input. Thanks!

If you are not a resident of Colorado, it around $80 bucks to register. Bring a set of orders with you when you go to register your car. I'm stationed at Carson but I am a resident here so I got hosed when I registered my car.

Be prepared to grab your ankles and some lube if you register the car as a resident. Every year...

Beaumont would be ok as we could visit family in San Antonio on the return trip. Im sure it would take less time to get there than some port in California. Ok, well thanks for the info. Ill still be looking forward to moving to CO. Its the lesser of quite a few evils when working for the military... Looking forward to M-Fest next year and other meets as well.

Welcome...we'll definitely need to meet up with some of the other folks in the area after you actually get here, including Kevin, even though he's minus his M3 at the moment. Where will you be posted?
I do know they rip you on the registration. I bought mine new at the end of 2012, and the first registration was almost $1500, down to $1000 the next year, and $875 this year.

We'll be in Colorado Springs. Looking at houses and such now. Be working at Carson as well. Area looks pretty amazing in many aspects. The schools, housing market, things to do. I'm hoping to find a German community for my wife... But it looks great so far. Looking forward to going there although I never really want to leave Germany.
