Throttle Valve Actuator source
Hey guys,
So, I'm getting the finally expected TVA codes and glorious limp mode. Does anyone have a decent source for TVA's here? I am going out on a limb and assuming the BMW Aus will be somewhere to avoid... Cheers, Craig |

I just got mine from Jason @ Rebuild. He can send the actuators out first with a deposit which is refunded when you send back your old ones.

UPDATE - Ordered a pair from Jason at Rebuild.
Bloody brilliant units! Cleaned up, rebuilt and lifetime warrantied for both gears and PCB. The job itself is ridiculously easy guys. From bonnet up to bonnet down it was a hair under 2 hours. Get them in, clear the codes and it's back to normal again. Observation - For the last 3 months my cold start cycle has been running longer and longer, to the point where I was timing it out to about 2 full minutes. After these bad boys went in the CSS is back to exactly 60 seconds like when I first picked the car up. Could be conflating things but the long CSS may be an indicator of TVA's starting the failure process. Cheers, Craig |

Is there much more involved to get to the TA's over the plugs ? Thinking of getting the lot done at the same time. |

Yes a bit more as the wiring harness is in the way and needs lifting up slight to be able to get the TBAs out. There are quite a few sensors and clips which I ended up marking either end so as to not confuse myself. Changing plugs I found a little painful. The TBAs is more challenging but not by much I reckon.👍

Has anyone had any experience with the VDO Throttle actuators?
I found this online for USD 470, it has the same part number as the genuine BMW part so I'm curious if its the same thing but with out the BMW branding? Its about USD 100 cheaper than the BMW Genuine part. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...do-13627838085 |

thanks for that, I only need to replace Bank 1 as BMW replaced the bank 2 TA under warranty, they wouldn't do both.
I haven't taken the plenum off as yet to have a proper look though I found a picture on line which some one has marked up to outline which is the bank 1 and bank 2 TA's. According to the picture, the bank 1 TA is on the left as you are facing the front of the engine. Can anyone confirm this is correct? Last edited by kosz888; 02-01-2018 at 10:59 PM.. |

The plenum is quite a B*** to take off and install. I'd probably do it when I have all the parts on hand. If i'm not mistaken, bank 1 is the one further front that actuates the driver side throttle body. If BMW have replaced one, I'm guessing the older one is easily identifiable?
If I were you, I'd probably get a set of aftermarket gears to replace the oem ones on the new actuator units. I'm using these from i6 auto Just my 2 cents |
