Anyone diy TPMS on 19's

My rule of thumb, anytime I'm doing maintenance I like to replace any consumables I can if I'm in the area and it makes sense. I got new tires installed and was to excited any to lazy to run back home and pick up the sensors to have the shop install them. Do I took a gamble. Guess what went out 1 week later?

The shop will do it for me for pretty cheap but I'd have to schedule it and My schedule is just to crazy to afford the time during their business hours. I've done them before on my truck wheels with the harbor freight bead breaker tool with little issue but I'm not sure if I'd have the same easy time with the competition 19 inch wheels.

Just curious if anyone has diy'd them?

im sure that would require coding and if i'm gonna go through the trouble of that then Id prefer to not have a tire monitoring system at all.

id rather take the risk of not having any system as i've had the monitoring systems fail me far more often then an actual pressure drop.

That's precisely what FTM is for.

Might be tough to break the bead DIY. I’d pay the shop.

Don't do it. You're just asking to destroy your rim. A giant truck bead with a big sidewall has far less tension than a 35 profile tire.

A tire shop should be able to get you in and out in under an hour. If your schedule is that crazy then just wait and drive with the TPMS on - it's not going to impact anything other than it being annoying.

Instead of using sensors (TPMS) in each wheel, FTM (flat tire monitor) uses the already existent wheel sensors on each corner to read pressures. Paying a coder to code in FTM is cheaper than fiddling around with TPMS, especially if you have multiple sets of wheels.

^ oh I need that! Thank you. I have 3 sets of wheels. Do you happen to know someone that can remotely code that our for me? I can unplug the module.

Yeah, sign me up for this FTM magic.

Why has this been so low key?

Don't believe the M3 ever had TPMS as an option over here, weird. On the other hand FTM comes as standard, saved my 359 rim once so does the job I guess.

There must be highly TPMS paid lobbyists in the US if it really has not necessary because the computers can be coded to use existing sensors instead. Would not surprise me since politics here is unfortunately overly influenced by money.

I believe it was a legal requirement in the US because the car didn't have a spare or come with run flats, something like that. But yes probably some lobbyist is to thank for that.

In Canada cars also had FTM.

I'm tuned by Alex at Alpine, and he also does remote coding including disabling TPMS and enabling FTM. It's $60 for a session if you already have a K+DCAN cable, if not you can add that onto the order or find one for cheaper on Amazon. Here's the link to his remote coding session: https://alpinemss.com/collections/co...-remote-coding
