This is a pretty rough one we just did. Car was turning over pretty sluggish and had a tick when cold that went away once warmed up. Pulled the oil filter and found a little bit of glitter. Luckily crank wasnt damaged. The tangs on the bearings were just about gone.

Would one bearing being so much worse than the others cause concern for something else going on here?

A lot follow his recommendations religiously. Who wouldn't he builds an engine every 4-5 days.

Maybe that for that rod the bearing was a little thicker than the rest and the journal a little bigger?
Whatever the cause, that was a very close call!!

Given the care for the car I was expecting my bearings to be in good shape, but I'll let you be the judge.

Lots of discussion on what bearings to get I went with BE and BE/ARP bolts and had Rocco at RMP Motors in Toronto swap them out and change my worn out motor mounts. Cars running buttery smooth.
Didn't appear to be too bad at all! But of course you couldn't have know that beforehand. Was still worth doing.

This reminds me of that covid illustration meme that was going around facebook a while back. "Imagine you and your friends are crafting at your house, and one of you is using glitter. How many of your projects have glitter?"

How many of your bearings have glitter?

The scratches on the new bearing surface you showed above do NOT look normal to me.

Take some more high resolution close up photos and send them to BE. Let Bert take a good look at the photos before installing them (it). The photo you posted appears to show some bare metal (shining). Keep us all updated.

Same deal with my recently delivered set. I spoke with BE and they also told me that the scratches are normal, due to measuring shell clearance. I won't lie - I'm still a little concerned given that a defect could cost $24,000.

One detail I did notice: most, but not all, of the scratches do look like scuffs if you rotate the parts (see my pics). One or two of the marks are still pretty prominent even if rotated though.

Those scuffs are nothing at all to worry about.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Thanks. Seeing the other cases helps too. That would be a serious quality control issue for a company renowned for their quality control.
