So a quick update today! Engine installed with manufactured oil pan and subframe. Figures we had to take out the transmission and engine first to get the oil pan and subframe back on. Pics posted!

We ran into a problem. The m3 clutch and flywheel all fits and bolts on but doesn't connect to the starter! This stopped us from starting the car. Anyone have any ideas if this can be done? Or I'll need an m6 clutch and flywheel then

super exciting project, will you recondition the engine a bit before putting into the M3, like cleaning, new plugs...etc..etc..

You're going to need an M5/M6 clutch and flywheel. The starters are different.. maybe try using the M3 starter? Probably won't work but have a look

Yeah I was trying it with the m3 starter. Doesn't work. So I need a m5/m6 clutch and flywheel.

Do you or anyone know of a SoCal BMW junk yard that might have this around? I'm looking to get this soon

You should take some steps to either lighten the front or add weight to rear to get that balance correct.

I would imagine the supercharged guys face the same issue, maybe not as extreme.
Honestly, have not taken the weight I go consideration yet. I know that the s85 is about 70 pounds heavier. But I am moving the engine back about 4 inches. I'm not going to be tracking the car much just to get some times. I'm trying to take care of this one since it's one of a kind

Eesh, bummer snag to have at the end. Also too bad you can't use the M3's clutch since the manual transmission E6x M5/6 are notorious for going through clutches like nobody's business.

I'm just hoping that it would work for now at least for 10k miles or so. Then I'll upgrade to a m6 clutch. But for now hope we don't run into anymore issues.
